Summary


Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work continues to grow and we are looking for an experienced Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) leader to join us. As part of our strategic plan, in this newly created role you will focus on building and establishing our DEI work for professional staff in Student Life.


You will design new and strengthen current program offerings related to inclusivity and equity for staff. While developing relationships across the organization, you'll build project plans and address friction points to establish and meet DEI strategic goals. You will collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to accomplish our vision while promoting a community where everyone feels included and empowered within the Student Life staff experience. You will report to the Director of Diversity and Inclusion - Michigan Housing. This role will be fully on-site in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with some flexibility to work up to 2 days/week remotely at times.

Responsibilities*


  • Respond to identity-based incidents
  • Create professional development initiatives to expand the skills for staff across the division
  • Provide training and consultation to Student Life units on identity-based concerns and conflict response with a restorative practices and diversity, equity, and inclusion lens
  • Use data to make recommendations for refinement of equity and inclusion practices within policies, systems, and training
  • Provide consultation with leaders on developing an inclusive working environment
  • Serve on and chair different committees and workgroups that relate to inclusive programming
  • Help with the selection, training, and development of staff in partnership with the DEI Human Resource Manager; partner to review procedures that attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce
  • Design and use assessments to measure and assure program quality and effectiveness
  • Serve in on-call rotation to manage campus climate incidents, remotely by phone
  • Build relationships with all levels of the organization to understand their operational and workplace culture needs
  • Evolve current and develop new curriculum; facilitate DEI and social justice educational opportunities for staff including workshops, training, and print materials; train others in DEI facilitation skills


Required Qualifications*


  • Demonstrated experience in training, workshop development, and facilitation, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence
  • Knowledge or practice of relevant models within diversity, equity, and inclusion work (such as restorative practices, conflict models, inclusive excellence framework)
  • 4+ years of diversity, equity, and inclusion curriculum development
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Interest in working in a large, complex organization coaching all levels and roles
  • Experience supporting organizational change efforts
  • 6+ years of related experience with increasing levels of responsibility within diversity, equity, and inclusion work


Additional Information


This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.


Authorization to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment and applicants for this position will not be sponsored for work visas.


Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.


Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/23 or after, will not be eligible for the university salary/merit plan in 2023 unless otherwise notified.
