Job Description
Position Description
Tacoma Water is seeking a Distribution Maintenance Manager to join their Maintenance and Construction Division. This position is responsible for managing the distribution maintenance work groups at the Water Operations Building site. This includes being responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing maintenance division operations including implementing programs, policies, procedures and training to ensure efficient and effective operations.
The work groups managed by this position are responsible for the Meter Shop, Maintenance Construction Support, AMI Support, Hydrant Shop, Uni-directional Flushing, Dead-End Flushing, Locating, and the management of the Tool Room, Decant Facility and Water Operations Building Yard. Additionally, this position is responsible for hiring, coaching and supervising and supporting the staff within their workgroup.
Responsibilities Include
  • Provide support on both a day-to-day and week-to-week basis, including determining appropriate workloads and schedules to align with both short and long-term goals
  • Provide coaching, feedback, mentoring, strengthen morale and foster a team environment that is alignment with leadership best practices
  • Ensure program procedures are completed in accordance with governing agencies, regulations, and best practices as specified by American Water Works Association, Department of Health, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Ecology, City of Tacoma Environmental Services and Tacoma Water Asset Management Program
  • Manage and plan for necessary equipment, tools, materials and staff to accomplish work
  • Manage long term sustainability of the work group; identify threats and risks to group function and propose solutions for mitigating them
  • Oversee the soil testing and management program and ensure staff comply with environmental requirements
  • Develop, monitor, maintain and direct day-to-day operations and maintenance activities of the Distribution Maintenance groups
  • Understand, interpret and apply language from Collective Bargaining Agreements; build relationships with Union Business Managers and City of Tacoma Labor Relations staff
  • Support the maintenance, cleaning, management and organization of the Water Operations Building yard
Qualifications
Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, environmental science or directly related field
Minimum Experience*
5 years of water utility operations and maintenance experience including 1 year prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level
  • Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Licensing, Certifications And Other Requirements
Washington State Driver's License
Washington Distribution Manager Level III Certificate or higher preferred

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
