Job Description
Description:

The Ability Center (ACT) is a non-profit Center for Independent Living. Together, we will work to make our community the most disability friendly in the nation by increasing independence for people with disabilities, discovering true passions, and changing the community's perception of disability.

The Director of Youth and Adult Services is responsible for the management and supervision of staff, and programs and services available to consumers in the Independent Living program. The Director will provide strategic leadership and expertise for inclusive community-based programs and services for youth and adults. Programming may include recreation, employment, peer support, and socialization. Will be responsible for establishing rapport with community leaders and developing relationships with community partners to support inclusive opportunities within our service area.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with management to ensure programs are comprehensive and meet consumer needs.
  • Ensure the programs operate efficiently, are consumer focused, and within budget.
  • Report program successes to supervisor, and provide reports to the Board of Directors as requested.
  • Will collaborate with community organizations to ensure inclusive, best practice opportunities are available throughout our service area.
  • Oversee and provide direction to staff in the areas of curriculum development, skills training, program scheduling, peer support, summer programs, community outreach, and consumer recruitment.
  • Responsible for tracking key performance indicators for consumer success and program outcomes.
  • Will have direct oversight for program grants and act as a liaison to grant monitors.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education or disability related field. Qualified candidates should have experience working with youth in an educational setting, youth and/or inclusive programming. Candidate should have management experience. Experience organizing programs and facilitating activities for people with disabilities is preferred. Previous social service, disability employment, recreation, and youth transition experience preferred. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with consumers, community organizations, professionals, and parents/family members. Must have the ability to lead and motivate employees to achieve common goals. Prefer to have an awareness and understanding of area social service programs.

Essential Physical Demands:

Will remain stationary for periods of time at a desk. Will operate a phone, computer, copier, and printer. Will frequently communicate with others in various ways. May frequently move from one office space to another, meeting spaces, and occasionally from one building to another. The position will occasionally require the employee to operate a personal and company owned vehicle, meet with individuals outside the regular work location, and work at venues outside the regular work location.
