ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Orlando office has an immediate opening for an enthusiastic, highly organized, Director of Transportation Planning to join our experienced team of planners, engineers, and scientists. As the Director of Transportation Planning, this person will be responsible for the winning and execution of transportation planning projects while directing a team of planners. Therefore, this person will have responsibility in business development, client management, and financial accountability. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal, and written communication skills, and be able to successfully manage projects and mentor transportation planning staff.
Responsibilities:
- Develop technical proposals and prepare fee proposals
- Develop, maintain, and update project budgets and schedules
- Take an active role in business development and in the identification of transportation prospects
- Maintain and grow relationships with our regional and local clients such as FDOT, local government, and Community Improvement District clients
- Serve as the project manager or task leader on planning of complex multi-modal urban transportation projects
- Manage project finances and contract requirements
- Prepare and deliver technical and public presentations
- Conduct technical analysis and prepare project reports
- Lead development of project deliverables and provide quality management
- Manage multiple, simultaneous projects with various topics and complexity levels
- Represent VHB at conferences, seminars, and industry organizations and events
- Provide significant support in the growth of the VHB transportation planning practice in Florida
- Manage and mentor more junior transportation planning staff
- Work directly with clients and deliver superior service
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent technical writing and proposal writing skills
- Ability to foster client relationships
- Experience in innovative planning initiatives including megacities, smart growth, new urbanism, resiliency, and sustainability
- Ability to manage complex projects of multidisciplinary nature
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Public outreach and community presentations experience
- Proven team leadership skills
- Active in regional industry organizations
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in the AEC industry
- Bachelors’ degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Transportation Planning or equivalent, Masters’ degree preferred
- Experience working with major transportation agencies in the Orlando area
- 15+ years of relevant experience in transportation planning with at least 5 years as a project manager or task leader preferred
- PTOE certification Preferred
- Florida PE License
