Director of Software Development, Cloud Engineering


This role has been designated as ‘Office’, which means you will primarily work from an HPE office.

You will be part of an organization focused on revolutionizing and transforming HPE's multi-billion business and instrumental in the Edge to Cloud transformation.

In this role, you will lead a large and multifunctional engineering organization of highly skilled and talented professionals responsible for delivering Data Services on HPE GreenLake Cloud Platform. More specifically, your team will design, develop, build, and maintain cloud software following agile and scrum principles and built on microservice base architecture. As a leader in this organization, you will have a proven track record of building and delivering enterprise software and experience using cloud technologies at scale.

The team is fast growing, and you will need to hire, retain and motivate the best talent effectively. You will be working closely with product management, architects, eng-ops, SREs, fin-ops, support and other SMEs and engage directly with the executive team.

The organization strives to excel in continuous learning and adopting cloud engineering best practices. You will need to embrace and foster this culture; feel comfortable challenging the status quo and driving changes across the board.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote the adoption of industry best practices for cloud development
  • Actively engage in technical discussions, project execution and incident management to ensure that goals are met or exceeded.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines such as EngOps, FinOps, Product Management, Support, Quality, and other teams/stakeholders to gain commitments on dependencies, improvements and remediation initiatives
  • Hire, lead, coach, and manage a high-performing engineering team
  • Build collaborative relationships with key partners by driving priorities aligned to HPE Edge-to-Cloud goals, influence and prioritize product roadmaps, and gain buy-in from executive leadership
  • Create strategic and tactical operations and resource plans, goals, and priorities based on business and technology roadmap
  • Promote a broad perspective/system-level thinking to drive complex problems to simple solutions

Education and Experience Required:

  • BS or Engineering degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Ten+ years’ professional experience in software product development, with 5+ years as a leader

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution. Proven ability to lead/mentor and grow geographically distributed teams across time zones and cultures.
  • Deep understanding and experience of cloud development technologies and best practices.
  • Has familiarity with various security best practices and tools.
  • Demonstrated versatility and Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in anticipating operational needs and impact on the business, function, or department.
  • Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering and consulting with senior management and executive roles for internal and external partners.
  • Extensive business acumen, cloud technologies, technical knowledge, and industry experience encompassing one or more engineering, technology, and product domains.
  • Organizational and strategic management skills, including budget and business planning and forecasting.
  • Advanced communication skills catered to a wide variety of audiences (e.g. written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Results-oriented, with a proven track record of success technically leading an engineering team.
  • Deep understanding and experience of agile and scrum principles and an ability to apply it in practice (working knowledge of JIRA desired).
