Hiring Company Overview:

You will be joining an established solar development company that has been developing utility-scale projects in the United States for over 10 years. In this vertically integrated Independent Power Producer (IPP), you will have exposure to all parts of the project lifecycle including development, financing, construction, operations, and maintenance.

You will join the U.S. branch of this international business, working in a close-knit team of under 20 people, though with the support of the global team of about 200 people. These subject matter experts are responsible for developing the company’s current portfolio of nearly 2GW of projects in operation or under construction and a pipeline of over 10GW of projects spanning 9 countries.

Position Overview:

The Director of Project Engineering for utility-scale solar will be responsible for providing technical advisory and technical project management to the U.S. team. In this position, you will work closely with both the Transmission (Grid Connection) team and the Development team in the U.S. as well as the Engineering team in the European headquarters.

This position reports to the Country Manager and has 1 direct report.

Location is Orlando, FL (northern suburbs) and attendance in the office is required 3+ days weekly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal teams such as engineering, design, legal, business development, and permitting to put together the project proposal packet for investment committee review
  • Prepare all technical project information including estimated costs and budgets for review by the Engineering team in the HQ
  • Assist the transmission/interconnection team during technical discussions with grid operators
  • Be the technical expert to answer questions at events such as town hall meetings, public hearings, or other events with project stakeholders
  • Perform cost-benefit-analysis of different solar technologies for projects such as modules, inverters, cables, conduits, racking systems, and breakers
  • Support the business development team with technical due diligence of new projects which may be greenfield, brownfield, or RTB acquisitions
  • Work with the Asset Management team to develop and execute SCADA communication schemes including DFR, PMU (PDC), RTAC, Axiom, and DPAC
  • Review proposals from vendors such as engineering consultancies and technical advisory firms
  • Support the business development team in responding to RfPs, bids, and/or auctions
  • Conduct site visits and work with third party engineering firms on site layout and plan approval

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or other qualification related to solar power generation or power grid interconnection such as SEI Solar Electric Design and Installation certificate
  • Battery energy storage design and engineer a plus but not required
  • Experience in PV Design for utility-scale solar
  • Comprehension of MV & HV one-line diagrams, site layout, and equipment arrangement for solar
  • 7+ years of solar industry experience

Other:

  • Willing to travel between project sites, up to 25%
  • P.E. license a plus
