PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:


As a Director of Sales, you will provide leadership and direction in planning, managing, coordinating, and controlling all outside sales (national) related operations to achieve established profit and growth objectives. You will lead a team of Regional Sales Managers across the US and enable growth through a vast distribution network.


ROLE OVERVIEW:


Team Leadership: Effectively lead a team of 8-10 Regional Sales Managers, consistently evaluating sales activities, progress, and results, and promptly initiating or recommending corrective actions when necessary to ensure the achievement of established goals. Periodically calls on customers, with Sr./RSMs and Business Development Manager, and makes a personal, supportive contribution to introduce/promote products.


Goal Setting and Planning: Develops and oversees the implementation of short- and long-term goals related to customer identification, sales volume, customer support, and profitability.


Market Analysis: Analyzes, interprets, and responds to marketing trends, sales statistics, competitive information, new product ideas, and customer needs that will have positive impacts on sales performance and organizational objectives.


Leadership Direction: Strategizes with senior management to improve sales performance and customer service, while monitoring and optimizing distributor networks.


Professional Development: Provides leadership, training, and developmental guidance to drive the growth of the sales team while identifying high-potential individuals for future opportunities, conducting performance appraisals, and effectively communicating compensation plans and salary information.


Budget Planning: Plans, prepares, and submits an annual operating budget - recommends capital expenditures where justified. Keeps expenses within budgeted levels unless altered explicitly by management.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Ability to objectively and fairly measure the performance of the team and takes appropriate action as needed.
  • Provides prompt attention and effective follow-through on customer problems.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in a related industrial sales capacity, most of which must involve mechanical products.
  • Technically competent to effectively promote the service, quality, and performance advantages.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective sales support programs and systems employing leading-edge business technologies.
  • Ability to sell recommendations and to obtain and maintain the respect of others
  • Ability/Willingness to travel 30-50% of the time.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or a technical field. An associate's degree in business or a technical field plus 15 years of direct experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead an industrial outside sales organization. Experience leading a remote team is strongly desired.
