The role of the Director of Operations is to oversee and guide the leadership team in the production, distribution and sale of the highest quality, most delicious, safest, cost conscious and honest artisan ice creams possible. This role oversees all scoop shop operations, production operations, distribution, logistics and events/catering. This position reports to the CEO and works closely with the CFO and the other leadership team to plan and set strategic objectives and then drive execution across operations in support of the company achieving its objectives.
▪ Fully support the mission, vision and core values of the company and the integrity of the brand
▪ Lead by example and provide leadership with the ability to get results through mentoring others
▪ Accept feedback, suggestions and constructive criticism in the interest of the business.
▪ Protect and promote the inclusive, collaborative and high functioning culture built by the founders
▪ Collaborate with and support the leadership team to evaluate, develop, and improve sustainable, effective and efficient operating systems and processes
▪ Guide and support the organization through a period of growth in both retail locations and CPG
▪ Work closely with the Office Manager on Human Resources & Training on people planning, recruiting, development and the implementation of training initiatives and company policies
▪ Train, guide, direct and evaluate direct reports to achieve personal, professional and company goals
▪ Create goals, action plans, and motivate leadership team toward achieving departmental and company goals and objectives
▪ Utilize leadership skills to develop a cohesive, collaborative, positive and transparent team environment between operations and the home office
▪ Successfully promote and enforce company policies, procedures, ideas, and concepts.
▪ Oversee and facilitate creation of detailed operating plans and budgets for all scoop shops, production, sales and events operations to align with and support the company's plan
▪ Drive planning and execution to achieve financial results that optimize top-line sales and bottom-line profitability
▪ Understand current operational challenges by location and provide insight and direction for optimization and improvement on every level while working closely with the Director of Shop Operations
▪ Monitor the competitive landscape and trends; attend industry events, as appropriate, to stay abreast of new initiatives and ways to maintain our competitive advantage
▪ Participate in vendor negotiations to ensure product quality, availability and cost-efficiency
▪ Leverage and optimize current platforms to improve operational efficienciesi.e., POS systems, SMG Guest Satisfaction, ERP systems (NetSuite preferred), delivery platforms, Ecommerce platforms (currently working with Goldbelly), etc.
▪ Support the successful implementation of marketing initiatives and campaigns across the company
▪ Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal dairy and health department/inspector guidelines
▪ Ensure maintenance of lab sampling programs (internal and external) of both product and environment
▪ Address any issues with vendors, staff, etc. to CEO immediately
▪ Maintain a flexible schedule based on needs of production and your team
▪ Able to read and comprehend written material
▪ Able to stand for shifts lasting up to, but not limited to, 8 hours of time on hard flooring
▪ Perform tasks which involve repetitive motion including, but not limited to the use of arms, hands, wrists, back
▪ Follows standard procedures in the use of all production appliances, equipment, utensils, etc.
▪ Able to adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations
▪ Able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls
▪ Able to work in variable temperature conditions, such as below freezing temperatures
▪ Manage one’s time and the time of others
▪ Lift 50 pounds
Qualifications
▪ Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Hospitality, or related field, preferred
▪ Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience with a significant amount as a Director of Operations or similar role in some capacity with a multi-unit operator in food and beverage/restaurant
▪ Experience in a growth, new restaurant opening experience, required
▪ Prior experience in all phases of the restaurant/food and beverage industry, including operations, finance, marketing, strategic planning, human resources, and development.
▪ Strong relationship builder with personal characteristics that include accountability, inclusiveness, fairness, humility, forward and creative thinking combined with sound judgment, honesty, integrity, transparency, discretion and a healthy sense of humor
▪ Values creating a calm, inclusive and predictable work environment
▪ Self-motivated, organized, creative, detail-oriented, excellent oral/written communication skills, thoughtful and a hunger to always be learning
▪ Proven track record of delivering strong financial results within a growing, multi-unit operator
▪ Availability to work a flexible schedule which will occasionally include some extended hours and weekends
▪ Comfortable working with the team in a hands-on manner
▪ Must maintain a safe driving record and be able to drive between locations using personal vehicle
▪ Spanish speaking ability a plus, but not required
