Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as the Director of Nursing (Crown Point) where you would be responsible for leading the UChicago Medicine Crown Point, Indiana location and would direct and influence the clinical staff and programs across these areas: including Ambulatory, Cancer Center (Clinics, Infusion, and Radiation Oncology), Ambulatory Surgery Center, Inpatient, and Emergency Department, to accomplish the mission, vision and strategic goals of the organization. UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago and Northwest Indiana.


The Director is responsible for developing programs that support the continued professional development and improvement of the clinical staff and employee satisfaction as measured by engagement scores across all responsible areas of the facility. The Director will maintain strong working relationships, collaboration, and consistency as needed with internal leaders/peers across UCM and external agencies. The Director develops and implements nationally-approved standards and guidelines for nursing, aligning with the nursing care delivery model while maximizing the talent and capabilities of UCM clinical personnel.


Who you are:

An adaptable and strong leader who will develop a network of relationships with physicians and other leaders to foster an environment of collaboration that has the following:

  • Three or more years progressive management experience required, including responsibility for managing multiple, large patient care areas. Inpatient and ambulatory leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to exercise judgment and assume responsibility
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to learn new systems and processes
  • BSN required; MSN or other advanced degree in healthcare-related field required.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading organizational change to positive outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to form positive working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the nursing field
  • Current State of Indiana Registered Nurse
  • National nursing certification strongly preferred


What you’ll gain as the Director of Nursing:

  • You will represent the Northwest Indiana Facility on medical center nursing committees and teams for the organization
  • You will have the ability to lead clinical program and nursing project management including planning, executing, and evaluating projects.
  • You will have the chance to lead, develop, and manage the performance of all direct reports and promote teamwork, collaboration and integration across all areas
  • You will get the opportunity to develop nursing dashboard to monitor patient and clinical outcomes and creates a plan of action to address gaps or changes.


What you’ll do as the Director of Nursing:

  • With collaboration from CNPPR, responsible to oversee education and competency of staff in responsible areas of the facility
  • Advises appropriate staffing to ensure safe and appropriate staffing plans for all nursing care areas
  • Facilitates the delivery of patient-family focused care across the inpatient and outpatient continuum of care
  • Monitor compliance with state and other governing bodies, tJC, DNV, and other regulatory agencies. Oversees the preparation of information needed to assure compliance
  • Collaborate with Crown Point Facility, UCM, and BSD administrative and clinical leadership to develop and sustain high-quality value-based care models that support quality and patient safety, and support the strategic growth plan
  • Executes on actionable opportunities to improve staff engagement
  • Monitors the performance of nursing-related and patient care activities and provides related timely reports, analyses, and recommendations for improvement
  • Participates in strategic planning initiatives and formulates annual goals that support the goals of the facility
  • Maintain strategic focus on building strong relationships with key leadership and peers in the medical community to ensure the effective implementation of all nursing programs
  • Participates with other leaders to ensure the environment of care is compliant with internal standards and external regulatory standards
  • Matrix manages the nursing staff across the facility locations to ensure appropriate levels of care and development and maintenance of standards of care aligned to nationally recognized standards
  • Serves as the escalation point for nursing-related issues across the facility
  • Selects, orients, trains, develops, and assigns work to nursing staff
  • Develops standards of performance; evaluates performance and conducts any necessary developmental actions for facility nursing leaders
  • Facilitates work groups for organizational effectiveness projects that use standard work and LEAN principles to drive continuous process improvement
