TITLE: Director of Jr. Sharks Hockey
POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Exempt

Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $70,000 - $82,500 per year
Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
Position Overview
The Director of Jr. Sharks Hockey is a key member of the Sharks Ice Management team. The responsibility of the Director is to operate all elements of the San Jose Jr. Sharks Hockey Club through execution of a strategic vision, fostering a positive environment, and ensuring the development of players, families, and coaches.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops a well-respected working relationship with the leaders of respective hockey interests within Sharks Ice and SSE to ensure club operations support “cradle to grave” opportunities for all participants.
  • Foster a strong relationship with Jr. Sharks families in a manner which encourages parental volunteerism and player conduct all the while upholding the elements of USA Hockey and Jr. Sharks program codes of conduct and club requirements.
  • Develop and manage the execution of a content strategy for social media and website with the goal of growing the clubs digital footprint.
  • Create a plan that articulates a skill development path for players having aggressive developmental ambitions, including goals of playing Tier, Junior, NCAA or professional hockey.
  • Annually reviews and updates the club Policy and Procedure Manual to ensure contents are accurate and compliant.
  • Serve the club liaison between Sharks Sports & Entertainment, Sharks Ice and the Jr. Sharks to ensure the club “story” is timely told.
  • Ensure all coaches schedule and conduct evaluations for each club player during and after the season to establish goals, feedback and accomplishments.
  • Own the relationship with our 3rd party merchandise partner for annual team jersey and soft good selection to ensure our customers’ needs are exceeded.
  • Own the recruitment, selection, development, and evaluation of all Jr. Sharks coaches in a manner which advances the quality and depth of our coaching staff.
  • Systematically solicit feedback regarding the club’s effectiveness according to an established schedule so that annual club operations can be measured with actionable improvement targets.
  • Attend all management meetings and seminars conducted by Sharks Ice & SSE.
  • Knows emergency procedures for facility and guests to ensure a safe experience for all.
  • Collaborate with all club teams to ensure they compete at the appropriate level, play the appropriate schedule of games and tournaments.
  • Through hockey industry contacts and networking, serve as a key contributor to the development, growth and attraction of teams to Sharks Ice tournaments.
  • Prepare Jr. Sharks Travel, Tier & Girls team budgets and leads operations to meet profitability objectives.
  • Serve as the Chairperson to the Hockey Advisory Board so that board seats are occupied by influential members and that key club initiatives determined according to established schedule.
  • Coach at least one club team in addition to leading the daily club operations.
  • Manages essential club volunteer roles such as, but not limited to, the Club Registrar.
  • Develop a sponsorship and fundraising strategy to execute the most beneficial events and/or campaigns for the organization.
  • Serve in appropriate leadership roles, representing the Jr. Sharks Club to CAHA, NORCAL, USA Hockey and other hockey governing organizations as required to benefit the advancement of the club goals.
  • Lead the Jr. Sharks club tryout process, providing on-ice as well as off-ice support, and recommends players to appropriate teams.
  • Upholds and maintains the policies and procedures of the ice arena.
  • Plan, develop and organize on- or off-ice clinics to meet the development needs of Jr. Sharks players in a profitable manner.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a coach or instructors’ training certification (USA or Canada).
  • Ability to work well with co-workers.
  • Requires long periods of ice skating and standing on skates while giving instructions.
  • Able to work well with youth and adults including parents of participants and have a positive relationship with customers.
  • Must have a college degree in management or equivalent.
  • Possesses a record of high achievement as a hockey player, a hockey coach or club president.
  • Projects a friendly, outgoing personality and enjoys being with people.
  • Outstanding interactive skills that will support the organization’s efforts to develop an acclaimed and productive community hockey facility and instructional/developmental program.
  • Has previously organized, developed and conducted quality hockey camps, schools, clinics and hockey leagues.
  • The candidate must be able an exceptional written and verbal communicator with the ability of delivering public speeches in a persuasive manner.
  • Three years of previous experience as a Director or Program Manager.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
  • Communicate via phone and email with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 15 lbs with or without accommodation
  • Ability to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of time
  • Physically navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation
