Duties and Responsibilities of Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach

General Responsibilities - Serve as Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach develop the foundation for an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 team! Purdue Northwest will begin competition in the sport of Women’s Ice Hockey in the 2024-25 academic year. This position reports to the Director of Athletics. Plan, organize, recruit and develop the Women's Ice Hockey programs. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to academic oversight, fundraising, and coordinating of camps and coaching clinics.


  • Oversee hockey program, responsible for the development of the ACHA Division 1 teams
  • Assist with academic monitoring of student-athletes
  • Construct competition schedule with approval of the Director of Athletics
  • Assist the Director of Athletics with public relations and fundraising activities
  • Direct summer camp
  • Lead team travel
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes
  • Supervise Assistant Coaches
  • Coach the Womens Ice Hockey Divsion I team in game competition in the ACHA. Direct daily practice during the prescribed season

Education of Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Education, Fitness or related program is preferred

Experience of Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach

  • One year of ice hockey coaching experience required at the professional, college or high school level

Core Competencies of Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach

  • Ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner
  • Must have strong team building/management skills
  • Understanding of the student-athletes' commitment to academics
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate collaborative efforts
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to interact with members of the public and media
  • Ability to supervise regular and temporary staff
  • As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the ACHA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance.
