Job Description

A Director of Floral and Merchandising position is available courtesy of The Kroger Co. in Cincinnati, OH.


Director of Floral Position Summary:

Guide the direction for assigned categories and coordinate efforts across strategic and financial initiatives. Serve as liaison between team and senior leadership, acting as champion. Set long-term plan across categories, identifying risk mitigation strategies, resource allocation, and vendor management opportunities. Director of Floral Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Coordinate Category Managers' (CMs) efforts across strategic and financial initiatives; manage a cohesive vision
  • Sign-off and guide assortment strategy within respective areas; tie to a unified customer experience across all channels
  • Ensure budgets, sales plans and pricing architecture meet departmental financial targets with accuracy; identify areas of opportunity supported by action plans and allocate resources as necessary
  • Partner with CMs and guide the process of annual budgeting and long-range planning across respective areas; understand total enterprise goals and the role respective areas will play; leverage scale across CMs where possible
  • Work on company initiatives / special programs that benefit merchandising long-term, including testing
  • Remove barriers, and reinforce priorities with project stakeholders, project owners, milestone owners and executive leadership
  • Push vendors to have a long-term view towards innovation and trends
  • Drive decisions and influence the creation of strategic visioning, planning, execution and management for Fresh departments and support areas to improve customer experience/conversion; ensure strategies are rooted in the overall Fresh strategic framework
  • Serve as CMs representation and connection point to VP, senior leadership, and rest of company (outside of directly-engaged support functions), providing visibility into the day-to-day
  • Assist Category Managers in senior-level vendor relations across National and Our Brands
  • Travel independently to visit divisions, vendors, etc.
  • Sign off on innovative go-to-market merchandising strategies across all customer delivery channels and modalities engaging the supplier community and other relevant stakeholders


Director of Floral Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Ability to influence others; skill and diplomacy in dealing with people at all levels within the organization
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Knowledge of space management software tools and capabilities
  • Strong knowledge of the retail environment, as well as consumer and competitive market dynamics
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • 5+ years floral and/or relevant fresh merchandising experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Any experience managing and leading groups of administrative managers


Desired Previous Experience/Education

  • Any division district coordinator, Merchandising representative, KOMPASS coordinator or financial experience
  • Any procurement experience
  • Any category management (assortment, pricing and sales planning) experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in business
