Job Description

We are seeking an Accounting Director who is responsible for the management of our general accounting functions including cash receipts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting. Responsible for the accounting and collection of events and product sales. Manages Accounting staff and reports to Chief Financial Officer.


Essential Responsibilities/Activities:

· Responsible for timely month-end close. Ensure timely completion of monthly journal entries, accounting transactions and account reconciliations by the Accounting staff.

· Review and analyze monthly financial statements. Identify and explain significant variances to the Council’s budget and/or prior year. Prepare and update financial reports for financial analysis, forecasting, trending and budgeting.

· Supervise and direct the work of staff through coaching and training. Encourage and promote ways to improve and optimize current processes to increase efficiency and accuracy. Manage priorities and evaluate staff job performance.

· Responsible for managing and completion of annual audit and federal & state tax returns (both prepared by an independent audit company). Prepare supporting schedules for the annual audit and serve as liaison to audit staff.

· Responsible for preparation and filing of Property Tax for multiple locations.

· Responsible for the maintenance of fixed assets and depreciation records. Prepare monthly capital expenditure report and monthly capital expenditure projections.

· Prepare cash flow reports. Responsible for the monthly reconciliation and analysis of cash accounts and balances.

· Make recommendations and participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Council’s annual operating and capital budgets as well as regular forecasting, working inter-departmentally to assist supervisors and managers with the preparation and analysis of their departmental budgets and forecasts as necessary.

· Work proactively to perform functions in an efficient and cost effective manner. Identify ways to improve efficiency through process improvement, use of applicable technology, and optimizing use of the accounting system. Provide recommendations for changes to procedures and implement approved changes to policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Accounting or related discipline from an accredited college or university. CPA and/or MBA a plus

· Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

· 7 to 10 years of accounting and managerial experience.

· 2 years of public accounting or public company accounting experience with audits and exposure to tax reports (i.e. 990’s or corporate tax experience).

· Excellent computer skills in Excel, Word, Outlook.· Ability to work cooperatively with staff and adult volunteers.
