We seek a visionary and entrepreneurial leader to guide in the continued success of one of the nation’s premier intensive English programs. The successful candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership, manage and secure resources, be a strong collaborator with other campus units, seek opportunities with international partners, promote excellence in research and teaching, and foster a collegial atmosphere that supports ELI’s mission and goals. Applicants must hold a minimum Master’s degree in TESOL or a Master’s degree in a related field with a TESOL specialization (preferred: doctorate in a related field) and be well versed on relevant current research and teaching methodologies. The preferred qualifications of the successful candidate include: strong budget and strategic planning skills; experience in grants and externally funded projects; a record of administrative leadership; knowledge of CEA accreditation; a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence; excellent communication skills; understanding of student recruitment and marketing; dedication to diversity and inclusion; and strong background of leading teams of students, faculty, staff, and administration.

The Director, as chief representative and executive officer of the ELI, has the responsibility for supervising and coordinating administrative, teaching, research, student recruitment, and service activities. The opportunities to shape the ELI and impact the wider field are significant thanks to the assets, resources, networks, and culture already established. In accordance with University regulations and in the spirit of open and cooperative decision-making, the Director will provide innovative leadership in formulating, implementing, and interpreting policies concerning academic programs, budgetary matters, and personnel (faculty, professionals, and staff). The Director represents the ELI to the College, University, and the wider professional and general communities, as well as to sponsoring agencies and prospective/current partners worldwide. Domestic and international travel is a component of the position. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

As a self-supporting unit with a multi-million-dollar budget following its own academic calendar, ELI manages its own marketing, admissions, registration, billing, new student orientation, housing, graduations, cultural programming, and student life operations.
