- Responsible for building, overseeing and managing adherence to design calendar and deadlines.
- Organize, plan, and lead Product Development meetings and provide next steps for development.
- Identify new trends, fabrics, and silhouettes through a combination of shopping and researching as well as exploring ideas originating from senior management, sales, and others within the Company. Disseminate ideas to the team via emails, purchased samples and trend board meetings.
- Present new ideas and recommendations to senior leadership with insight as to story, style and fit through viable, creative conceptual presentations and provide clear design direction to the factory
- Working with EVP of PD and Supply Chain, develop relationships with prospective new factories and fabric mills as needed for new styling and trends, for potential cost saving and/or for needed supply chain redundancy.
- Recommend construction and detail adjustments that affect cost.
- Oversee development of highly accurate tech packs with factories.
- Maintain awareness of current L2 selling trends to inform decision making and recommendations.
- In collaboration with sales and key account customers, coordinate and manage private label developments from initial concept through production phases. Key Accounts would be considered B&N, Follett, Cracker Barrel, Scheels, Masters, Disney and any other significantly large or strategic partners that warrant personalized or private label development.
- Oversee and provide guidance to Quality Control personnel, which reports to Senior Technical Designer.
- In conjunction with Fabric Sourcing Manager and Sr. Designers, oversee fabric and trim development with mills; approval process for fabric quality and color; and fabric DTG testing and results. Request sample yard orders for development testing and Salesman samples.
- Initiate and track development on branded labels, hangtags and care labels per fabric platform and tech packs.
- Obtain and pursue aggressive product costing via successful negotiating skills and in conjunction with EVP of PD and Supply Chain.
- Participate in catalog image and copy proofing.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of product development, construction, and supply chain experience.
- Experience in brand building desirable.
- Strong understanding of all L2 Brands sales channel and customer nuances and vendor relationships
- Experience working with overseas vendors and traveling abroad to production facilities.
- Thorough knowledge of L2’s product lines, silhouettes, fabrication, color ways, sewing techniques, trims, graphic and decoration applications.
- Excellent color sense and ability to create saleable seasonal color palettes that flow seamlessly from season to season while still providing a vision of newness to the customer.
