Job Summary:

With general supervision, the digital producer for National Geographic writes smart, attention-grabbing headlines and promotional copy, seen by millions of readers, with the goal of growing audiences and driving revenue. He/she/they sets and maintains editorial standards for digital storytelling using best practices learned through testing and analysis and oversees programming of National Geographic’s owned & operated platforms whereby expertly balancing editorial immersion with company priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Crafts clever and engaging promotional copy—including headlines, decks, push alerts for mobile app and other platforms, editorial email, and social copy as needed—informed by social trends, current events, and SEO best practices, with the goal of driving audience growth and maintaining accuracy.
  • Uses data to track the success of headlines and promotional copy, pivoting strategically when necessary and providing guidance to content creation teams on what resonates with National Geographic’s audience.
  • Provides digital expertise to editorial teams using knowledge of SEO principles, digital best practices, data analysis and social trends to establish and enforce high standards for digital storytelling on high-value special projects.
  • Uses extensive knowledge of National Geographic’s editorial strengths, audience tastes, current events, and social trends to pitch and execute promotional strategies including editorial newsletters, desktop notifications and push alerts, and content recommendations, with the goal of meeting and exceeding business goals.
  • Edits and programs content on the natgeo.com homepage and mobile app, aligning editorial, advertising, communications, and marketing teams to support National Geographic and The Walt Disney Company priorities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrable experience in crafting clever and engaging headlines for a variety of platforms.
  • Deep understanding of SEO best practices. Knowledge of digital best practices and SEO principles. Experience applying analytics tools to editorial content for audience growth and editorial decision-making.
  • Experience working in content management systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experiencein digital media environment (i.e.: digital newsroom, magazine, etc.)
