We are currently hiring for a Development Director in our Eagan office. The primary responsibility will be to oversee corporate fundraising, volunteer recruitment and management, and digital experience/event management for our Heart of Twin Cities campaign which includes our signature Heart Ball event.


We have a fast-paced sales type of environment with the main responsibility of driving revenue in support of our mission. Competitive salary with incentive potential is offered.

  • Prospect and secure local corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and auction items.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports. Skill in use of spreadsheet/database analysis.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Work closely with a Communications Director to develop and manage a promotion/communications plan for the campaign.
  • Ability to do daily travel up to 50%.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations, and similar narrative pieces.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office.
  • Identify, recruit and manage executive volunteer leadership including implementing a year-round cultivation plan.
  • Develop profiles on the top businesses within the assigned markets with a documented plan to secure their involvement.
  • Execute digital experience/event logistics based on national best practices.
  • 2 years of relevant experience preferred; college graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply.

The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Development Director, School Engagement in our Eastern Region. The position is Home Office based located in the Silver Springs, Maryland or surrounding area. Territory covers 5 Maryland counties including Montgomery, Prince George's, St. Mary's, Charles and Calvert counties. You will work directly with schools in these 5 counties. Under the direction of the Vice President, Youth Market and the Senior Vice President, Youth Market Director, this position is responsible for applying validated sales techniques to acquire new accounts and renew and grow existing accounts related to school fundraising and development. This is done to achieve revenue generation and program goals.
Essential Job Duties
  • Responsible for recruitment and cultivation of school volunteers in assigned territory for youth market partnership with the American Heart Association. Supports in developing and working plan with revenue and volunteer recruitment goals, including securing sponsorships and donations.
  • This includes typically visiting 5-10 schools each day.
  • Performs summer cultivation with school administrators at both the school and district level.
  • Establish and maintain superior customer service relations with appropriate contacts within your market area.
  • Recruit, train and develop volunteers at multiple levels throughout the schools assigned.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.
  • Attend all meetings and trainings mandated or approved by Vice President, Youth Market.
  • Ability to do daily travel up to 75%. Includes ability and willingness to accomplish high levels of travel within assigned territory.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to maintain valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Responsible for the account management and American Heart Association cause promotion in schools that are existing accounts and potential accounts within the K-12 market. Implementing life-saving initiatives; including Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge programs.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to recruit, train and counsel volunteers to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Bachelor’s or some college plus experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
  • Must possess excellent marketing, communication and relationship building skills.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2016 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets.
  • Skill in written and oral communications, consultation, and comprehensive planning.
  • Ability to analyze and forecast sales and other numerical data.
