Job Overview
The Development Associate for Athletics - a member of the athletics development team - works with colleagues within both the Office of Advancement and the Department of Athletics to support the team’s efforts in developing a donor pipeline and promoting a culture of gratitude.
They provide high level administrative and strategic support to the athletics development team; assist with portfolio review, maintenance, and strategy; identify and research potential donors to the university, and provide full-spectrum support to development officers; provide weekly gift reports and manage weekly gift acknowledgement.
They work closely with the athletics development team to support events, stewardship activities, and board communications; and provide general development support and assistance for the development team, including budget oversight and reporting, contact reports and strategies, and special and group project management.
The Development Associate is also responsible for the gift process - entering and tracking asks, proposals, gift agreements, statement of intents, and gift transmittal forms.
The diversity of the Development Associate’s workload requires teamwork, flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, external relations focus, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments. As well, it requires tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with members of the University community and the University's donors.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for Athletics, the Development Associate works closely with the Advancement Stewardship team and Advancement Gift Administration, development officers, and other advancement colleagues. They also collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Athletics, including coaches and staff members in the Marketing, Ticketing, Sports Information, Business and Compliance offices; and with both internal and external constituents.
They communicate directly with donors and, in all that they do, work to build a culture of gratitude, and ensure that donors are appreciated, recognized, informed and engaged.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Careful judgment and discretion, in particular for the handling of confidential information
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Suite and Google Suite
  • 1 to 3 years of work experience - preferably in a development/fundraising environment
  • Broad knowledge of - and experience in - the use of research materials, including the internet and online informational databases
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent attention to detail, the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative as appropriate
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively, at times under tight deadlines
  • Strong collaborative and project management skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple project
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills
  • An understanding and practice a high standard of confidentiality and ethical information collection
  • Ability to effectively manage projects - both data-driven and relationship-driven and must be highly detail-oriented
  • Flexibility, efficiency and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments in a diversity of workload
  • Superior organizational skills and proven experience working independently
