SUMMARY
Dental Equipment Technicians within the Merit System are responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment in Jefferson County Department of Health Dental Clinics. Employees in this job class perform basic maintenance and repair on a variety of equipment, including: dental chairs, panographic x-ray units, autoclaves, etc. As such, employees in this job class are expected to have thorough knowledge of troubleshooting and making repairs to mechanical, electronic, and electrical equipment. Dental Equipment Technicians are also responsible for coordinating major repairs or replacement of existing equipment with vendors and contractors. The employee works closely with vendors and contractors to assist in troubleshooting equipment, monitoring the work of contractors, and reviewing/approving invoices submitted by maintenance contractors. Employees in this job class also review and maintain detailed records related to all maintenance activities within the dental clinics.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on dental equipment (e.g., oil changes and lubrication of moving parts, changing filters, etc.).
  • Maintains and reviews records of maintenance activities by reviewing equipment logs and reviewing, creating, and/or filing work orders, parts order forms, and other necessary records, in order to document maintenance activities.
  • Services, maintains, and repairs Dental Clinic equipment such as dental chairs, air dryer, panographic x-ray units, autoclaves, etc. to ensure the proper functioning of dental clinics.
  • Reviews invoices submitted by maintenance contractors to ensure the accuracy of invoices, and to get reviewed invoices approved for payment.
  • Calibrates and adjusts dental equipment in order to ensure equipment functions properly and according to specifications.
  • Coordinates with dental equipment manufacturers and contractors to schedule major repairs to equipment, and regular tests of equipment to ensure that dental equipment is properly maintained and tested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment (e.g., reading/interpreting multi-meters, soldering, interpreting wiring diagrams, repairing/maintaining dental chairs).
  • Driver’s license.
  • Experience performing electrical inspections on equipment to troubleshoot and make repairs (e.g., checking incoming power to equipment, replacing fuses, testing receptacles, experience working with 120 & 240 Volts).
  • Experience maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, changing seals, gaskets, belts).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is performed primarily within medical or healthcare facilities.
  • Work also involves use and maintenance of medical tools and equipment, and employees in this job class may occasionally be exposed to biological and/or chemical hazards.
  • Work involves use of various hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment such as hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, multi-meter, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, g, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing over 50 lbs.
