Job Description

Pay Grade/Pay Range: Non Classified - Grade NA

Department/Organization: 507302 - Automotive Services

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm

Job Summary: The Automotive Technician II must possess a highly skilled knowledge of the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, tractors, and equipment in accordance with standard trade practices and be able to apply the knowledge to repair and maintain vehicles with very minimal supervision while reporting to and advising the Director of Automotive Services in decisions relating to mechanical repairs and in matters concerning safe vehicle operation. Must possess a highly skilled knowledge of automotive electrical and mechanical theories and be able to apply them in making repairs and performing diagnostics. May provide guidance and instruction to lower-level automotive mechanics.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED, a minimum of two (2) years of experience equivalent to that of an Automotive Technician I. Demonstrated ability to repair late model vehicles(vehicles manufactured within the last ten years), trucks, tractors and other equipment in accordance with standard practices in an automotive shop setting. Must have one of the following: degree from technical school in automotive technology, degree from a certified training center or ASE certified in at least one automotive field. Part of the Automotive Technician Job Family.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A valid Commercial Driver's License, Class B, or ability to obtain CDL within six (6) months of the date of hire required. Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
