Status: Full-time, exempt Schedule: M-F, 8.30a.m. - 4.30p.m, including occasional evening and weekend work based on seasonal business needs and position requirements. Summary of Position The Dean of STEM will lead assigned areas of curricular matters related to IES Abroad strategic initiatives, including program development, curricular inclusivity, and STEM-related programming and efforts. Working closely with the EVPAAP, Dean of STEM will be charged with leading organization-wide efforts that impact our continued success in international education. In addition, Dean of STEM will broadly oversee the academics and operations of a cluster of international study Centers and directly supervise a Center Cluster Dean (CCD). STEM Initiatives Work collaboratively with the appropriate AVP and Cluster Dean to construct thematic pathways for curricular integration in various fields and, in particular STEM fields Work with Cluster Deans, Center Directors, and faculty (domestic and abroad) to implement and assess strategic curricular developments in the STEM fields Monitor curricular trends to inform curricular development and revision; lead the development of new programs and courses Partner with U.S. university faculty and department leadership to improve existing curricula and develop new academic programming that meets consortium needs Work closely with the IES academic governance system, including the Engineering Advisory Council and Engineering Curriculum Committee, to facilitate program development and course approval Work with AVP for Academic Initiatives and Assessment to coordinate efforts related to program assessment for regional clusters and centers, as well as respond to and implement changes resulting from assessment findings Review the timeliness and relevance of the curricula to the changing student population in conjunction with the Center Clusters and AVP for Academic Initiatives and Assessment Center Cluster Oversight : The AVP will oversee one or more Center Clusters and have line management responsibility in ensuring each Regional Center Cluster's success. Set measurable goals with all direct reports, including Center Clusters, and conduct/complete performance evaluations annually and as needed Advise Center Clusters on strategies related to the hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions at each Center in coordination with Center Directors. Facilitate approval of permanent hires when required Advise the Cluster Deans in developing and managing Center budgets; hold Cluster Deans accountable for meeting budget and forecast targets each year Academic Policies and Implementation Plan and oversee the schedule of Program Assessments for IES Abroad Centers in the Regional Center Cluster Continuously assess Center adherence to IES MAP standards Review potential international university partnership changes and make recommendations to EVPAAP Review program evaluations for continuous improvement Oversee adherence to Academic Guidelines at Centers and revise academic policies as needed and under the Academic Council's consultation Assist AVP for Academic Initiatives and Assessment in the oversight and development of CORE Programming at Centers Assist AVP for Academic Initiatives and Assessment in reviewing and enhancing IES Abroad Center diversity plans Serve as a critical academic anchor for academic programming. Additional Periodic travel related to the enhancement of academic programming, including Center Cluster assessments, conference attendance, and campus visits Maintain strong working relationships with top sending institutions for each center cluster and customized and faculty-led programs Commit to and demonstrate values and promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism Requirements Ph.D. in a STEM field is required Minimum of 7-10 years of higher education faculty experience in a STEM field Faculty/teaching experience at a university or college required Significant administrative and supervisory experience Tangible evidence of successfully managing a major initiative in higher education Broad knowledge of U.S. higher education and international education Working knowledge of one foreign language is preferred Experience living, working, or conducting research abroad for an extended time is preferred Experience leading groups of students abroad is a plus Exceptional strategic thinking and management skills Outstanding analytical ability Visionary academic management acumen Significant experience working broadly from the strategic/conceptual level to the actual implementation of strategic initiatives Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience working across cultures Ability to demonstrate values and promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism Ability to engage all stakeholders Job Posted by ApplicantPro
