Minimum Qualifications

What you do and how you do it:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Data & GIS Specialist to join our team in the Budget and Management Department. We are looking for someone who is naturally curious about what is happening around them, eager to dig into the data, ask questions, and provide novel solutions. You will play a critical role in the decision-making processes which will shape Chesterfield not just for today, but decades to come. If you have a strong background in spatial analysis, data visualization, and a passion for transforming complex data into meaningful insights, we want to hear from you.

Using GIS and graphic design software, you will:

• Collaborate across the organization to integrate GIS data into reports and presentations.
• Produce maps and reports that showcase the spatial distribution of various types of data, including: demographic, census, housing pipeline, and Capital Improvement Program data.
• Work closely with county leadership and departments to understand their data requirements and provide customized mapping solutions.
• Stay updated with the latest GIS and data visualization techniques and tools.
• Analyze spatial data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships
• As a key member of the department, you will also develop skills as a budget analyst for assigned departments; perform other work as required.
• Ensure accuracy and quality control of data and maps throughout the entire process.

Here’s What You Need:

• Proven experience in spatial analysis and data visualization using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Strong knowledge of spatial data formats, databases, and data management principles.
• Team player with excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
• Proficiency in designing and developing digital maps using geographic data.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field; three years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.
• Proficiency in using InDesign or other Graphic Design software to produce reports and presentations.
• Experience working with demographic data, Census data, and other relevant datasets.
