About The Team
This role reports to the Engineering Manager with the Upstream Data team in our Data Enablement organization. Our team provides the expertise and best practices required to build performant, stable and cost efficient data pipelines. We also provide key foundational datasets used across the company.
About The Role

• Provide detailed and constructive design and code reviews
• Direct and implement solutions to complex, unscoped problems
• Discover opportunities to improve our architecture, services and capabilities
• Work cross-functionally with various engineering teams (e.g. machine learning, data platform, analytics) to understand their needs and optimize components and services to help them achieve their goals.
• Designing, building and evolving the core Data Engineering components and services for writing performant and scalable data pipelines

Requirements
What you’ll be working on

• Have solid software engineering and coding skills, including CS fundamentals like data structures and algorithms
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills; exhibiting empathy, communication, and technical skill are valued equally
• Turn ideas into deeply reliable and well-tested code with an eye towards maintainability
• Are an analytical thinker and understand how to wield data to make informed decisions about your work

Must-Haves

• Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of hands-on experience
• Have experience building highly performant, scalable distributed data pipelines using Apache Spark
• Hands on experience with Cloud technologies such as Google Cloud or AWS (preference with Google Cloud)
• Some experience or familiarity with SQL (with preference in BigQuery)
• Have extensive professional experience with object-oriented programming languages like Scala, Java or Python (We primarily use Scala)
• Experience writing scalable and performant data pipelines on distributed systems (e.g. Hadoop, Spark) - preference in candidates with experience in Airflow

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with writing streaming applications (preference with Kafka Streams) is a plus
• Apache Beam
• Advanced skills utilizing Software Engineering best practices

Details/Notes

• This request will provide support while a team member is on leave and is unlikely to extend.
• Interview Process: Candidates will meet with the hiring manager for 30 minutes, then complete 1-2 technical interviews for 30-45 minutes each
• This role is open to remote candidates from all US states except Hawaii and Alaska.
