Description Of Duties/Essential Functions


The Houston Public Library seeks an energetic, self-motivated, detail oriented, superior interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills as well as customer-service driven individual to join the Financial Services team.


This Position Responsibilities Will Include


Essential job duties and responsibilities include:


  • Assisting to educate and guide department employees regarding travel policies and procedures’, maintain accurate travel reports for all conferences.
  • Prepares and maintains financial reports.
  • Responding to vendor inquiries and complaints as necessary.
  • Serving as back-up to financial service’s departmental liaison to research problems and management inquiries.
  • Performing specialized and complex accounting and auditing tasks, maintains control records, and prepares reports and records as requested.
  • Supervising, planning, organizes, and coordinates financial services activities for accounts payable.
  • Processing, reviewing, preparing, correcting, and approving payment documents and reports for all funds, assisting to ensure all Private Fund transactions are paid and recorded in accordance with the funds, endowments, and grants stipulations and guidelines.
  • Performing other duties as delegated by the CFO, including issues and information of a highly sensitive nature.
  • Handling the general Accounting and Investigations for all accounts payable.
  • Monitoring, tracking, reporting, and investigating accounts as necessary in accordance with Governmental Accounting policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS


Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing


Minimum Requirements


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS


Requires a high school diploma or a GED.


Experience Requirements


Four (4) years of administrative or customer service related experience is required.


Substitutions: Associate's degree may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience. Bachelor's degree may be substituted for up to four (4) years of experience.


License Requirements


A valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2) preferred.


PREFERENCES


**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**


  • Preference will be given to the applicants who understands account and finance processes and operations.
