Job Description

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive quality engineering support to Proterra’s Customer Quality Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for working as a cross-functional team member, ensuring optimal product performance of Proterra Powered products. You will address customer concerns by analyzing failures and leading the RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action) process and reporting.


About the Role – You will:

  • Present to Management the status of issues and countermeasures; participate with other stakeholders to drive more robustness in the manufacturing processes.
  • Work with Proterra Supplier Quality to resolve issues with supplied parts.
  • Support quality control by performing inspections, ensuring the product and process comply with relevant specifications and requirements (FMVSS, DOT, FTA, White book, etc.)
  • Share Lessons Learned from previous Customer issues; Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews and PFMEA to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated.
  • Work with Assembly, Product Development, and Sales to ensure that customer expectations and contract requirements are met.
  • Plan and direct activities pertinent to the development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes; create and maintain quality documentation, such as procedures, inspection plans, work instructions, quality assurance specifications, etc.
  • Support the Customer and internal teams with Root Cause analysis and problem-solving skills; review customer issues and articulate proper problem ownership of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier and assign Non-Conforming Reports (NCRs) accordingly while being a catalyst for timely closure of NCRs from various owners.
  • Monitor product performance for each customer, identify trending issues, and drive data analytics based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); Prioritize issues based on Severity, Occurrence, and/or Cost of each failure mode.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Your Experience Includes:

  • Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Knowledge of quality and continuous improvement tools
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Environmental Demands:
  • 3+ years’ quality experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving skills supported by structured Root Cause analysis, may include the following: Kepner-Tregoe, Triz, Shainin, etc.
  • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include the following applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, Arena, Kronos,Outlook, Teams, or similar applications.
  • Experience using the following measurement tools including but not limited to gages, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial or equivalent) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.

  • You might also have:

    • Knowledge of BOM structure and management
    • Experience with hybrid or electric vehicle.
    • Transit, heavy vehicle, or other transferable experience.
