Custodian - Part-Time Jobs

General Information & Responsibilities

The part-time Custodian is responsible for keeping assigned areas as clean as possible with the machines and equipment available, performing all duties necessary to clean and take care of any floor at the College.

Description Of Essential Duties

• Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.
• Works an effective team member with other custodians and supervisor and communicates issues and concerns regarding assigned duties to Lead Facilities Custodian or Facilities Superintendent.
• Responsible for knowing written custodial procedures including work orders, manuals, and other written directions as necessary.
• Assists in special events setup and teardown and security of all College property on assigned shift.
• Completes assigned duties in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
• Keeps assigned areas neat and clean, including vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing and reconditioning all of carpeted and hard surface floors; dusting, polishing and vacuuming of all furniture, doors, walls; washing of light fixtures and windows; dumping all waste containers and recycling containers and hauling same to proper disposal areas.
• Attends required trainings as needed.

Description Of Other Duties

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
• In absence of other custodians, fills in at other locations as needed.
• Prepares work orders for repairs, adjustments needed on equipment, fixtures in assigned areas.

• Works directly and cooperatively with Facilities Superintendent.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

• Ability to make decisions and implement them after they are made, and fulfill requirements to complete assignments.
• Must be dependable and punctual in reporting to and leaving work.
• Previous experience operating and maintaining machines inherent to the job (e.g. floor scrubber, buffer) preferred. Includes keeping machines cleaned.
• Six months of previous experience in similar work assignments desired.
• High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Physically capable of completing major responsibilities listed above.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds required.
