Job Description
ConSTEM, short for 'Conservation STEM,' emphasizes the intersection of civic engagement and conservation behavior through the development of critical and systems thinking skills. Outputs of the ConSTEM project will include interactive hybrid resources and professional development opportunities focused on ocean conservation, science practices, and science learning. Content will focus on using North Atlantic right whales (NARW) to teach youth about human and ocean interactions, and how their actions can positively impact marine species while also building problem-solving skills and a systems-thinking perspective. The online resources will offer learning assets that allow teachers to select and develop the storyline they want their students to follow, with opportunities for additional teacher support. All content will meet the Massachusetts Revised Science, Technology, and Engineering Standards (MA-STE) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).


The Coordinator will be responsible for creating a hybrid curriculum that uses authentic data sets to build a foundational understanding of cause and effect, as well as the need for a balanced use of the ocean. The contractor will develop/ identify/ test activities, materials, content of classroom visits, and videos and will adjust based on these results. The contractor will also coordinate with Knology, the project's evaluator, and LabXchange, responsible for hosting curriculum resources on their online platform.


SCHEDULE


This is a full-time, hybrid, temporary role expected to extend into Fall 2023. The general schedule will be Monday-Friday from 9:00 am -4:30 pm, with flexibility.


Essential Functions


  • Coordinate with Knology to develop an evaluation plan for ConSTEM.
  • Develop plan for a hybrid curriculum, including activities, teaching materials, content for classroom visit and supplemental videos.
  • Ensure all content meets Massachusetts Revised Science, Technology, and Engineering Standards (MA-STE) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Coordinate with LabXchange to prepare materials for online engagement via their web platform.
  • In consultation with AVP and ACCOL right whale scientists, identify and refine appropriate content.


Qualifications


Minimum Training and Experience


  • 5+ years of experience in education and curriculum development, preferably in science education
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with hybrid curriculum
  • Experience with formal education including standards alignment including familiarity with NGSS
  • Understanding of MA state curriculum standards for K-12
  • Preferred: Experience with informal education (e.g. zoos, museums, aquariums, science centers)


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple project partners
  • Excellent project management skills, including attention to detail, organization and ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
