The Court Research Analyst is responsible for participating in research projects that improve various aspects of state court administration and disseminating research results. Responsibilities include the collection of court-related data through databases, websites, surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc., preparing, cleaning, and manipulating the resulting databases, conducting data analysis, and dissemination of research results through various formats. The Court Research Analyst will have extensive contact with data repository agencies including court officials, partners, and project stakeholders
- Participates in research projects by preparing sections of or completing reports on research findings.
- Provides varying degrees of technical assistance and information to staff of state court systems, government agencies, academic institutions, media, and other organizations upon request.
- Conducts data analysis and documents research findings, including descriptive and comparative analyses. Maintains familiarity with current statistical and analytic techniques.
- Compiles and maintains project databases for multiple projects, taking responsibility for accuracy, comparability, and completeness of data records.
- Designs products that effectively communicates research finding to diverse audiences by preparing sections of or complete reports on research findings or development of products (e.g., online resources, tools).
- Coordinates activities associated with publishing and disseminating research reports and prepares articles on research for journals and periodicals.
- Documents data collection methods and instruments and archives data sets according to funding agency instructions.
- Reviews written materials of other projects for clarity; coordinates activities associated with publishing, disseminating, and marketing research deliverables.
- Participates in the business development of a proposal idea, conducts research on topics/literature reviews as needed, works on preparation of proposals/RFPs/concept papers including writing, and coordination of information.
- Demonstrates conduct that upholds the basic Core Values of NCSC.
- Contributes to building infrastructure (e.g., data visualizations, web-based story boarding, data dashboards, reference materials, practitioner publications, project reports) to maximize dissemination to end users of the information.
- Conducts empirical and applied research including compiles, cleans, manipulates, and maintains project databases for multiple projects, taking responsibility for accuracy, comparability and completeness of data records.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and to competently perform quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
- Experience using statistical/data management software such as Excel, SPSS, Stata, R, and Tableau
- Preferred experience with workload assessment and caseflow management within a court setting
- Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, public policy, or a related field, plus 3 years of research experience, OR a Master’s degree (preferred)
- Ability to travel up to 12 times per year
- Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and facilitation; and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively both orally and written
- Excellent assessment, evaluation, and data management skills
The annual starting salary for this role is between $58,240 - $68,000, factors which affect starting pay within the range include skills, education and experience and other qualifications as it relates to the position.
