Summary



Charlotte Communication and Marketing (CCM) is looking to hire a Digital Content Creator. This position will be responsible for creating web content, social media posts, video scripts, and other content that will help residents easily understand complex policy decisions, inform customers of service updates and impacts, and communicate the City of Charlotte's mission and vision to digital audiences. This position will work closely with both the Public Relations and Media Relations teams to identify timely and noteworthy topics to cover and help manage the team content calendar. This position will also play a key role in refining standardized processes that help ensure consistency and accuracy in writing across the organization.

The Digital Content Creator’s primarily responsibility will be to create written content for the city’s digital channels, additional responsibilities will also include working with staff and Gov Channel studio team to create short-form social videos or provide support for long-form video projects. The digital content creator role reports to the Digital Content Team manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities



  • Develop copy for social media posts and play a supporting role in developing social media campaigns and series.
  • Build relationships with colleagues across the organization and craft successful pitches to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in updating relevant city guides (ex. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Style Guide) and processes that govern writing style and consistency.
  • Assist in tracking performance metrics and provide recommendations on how to improve CCMs content strategy.
  • Develop ideas for compelling and relevant stories about the organization’s programs, polices and services.
  • Coordinate with and interview internal subject matter experts for use in your writing as needed.
  • Create short-form social media videos and assist in the production of long-form video packages.
  • Provide recommendations to management on messaging and communications formats to maintain clarity and accuracy of message.
  • Anticipate major, noteworthy news events and assist in managing the team content calendar.
  • Write content that is easy to understand, on-brand, and incorporates SEO best practices.


Preferred Qualification

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and clearly communicate impediments that might interfere with content production.
  • Bachelor's degree – preferably in Marketing, Communication Studies, English or Journalism – or two years' experience in a related field.


Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years relevant experience. Or

Associate’s Degree and three years relevant experience.

Salary

$65,000-$71,000

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
