Job Description
Assists students with career assessment, career planning/preparation, major/pathway selection, and overall support of student success initiatives.


  • May supervise staff in the absence of the Assistant Dean and Assistant Director as assigned and requested by supervisor.
  • Administers appropriate assessments to assist students with identifying personal characteristics aptitude, achievement, interests, values, and personality traits, life-work roles, work attitudes, career decision-making processes, etc.
  • Assists students in developing, evaluating and implementing career readiness goals that align with an academic pathway selection.
  • Collaborates with a broad range of institutional constituents to coordinate offering of departmental programs and events; initiates follow up on these events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Develop strong community / employer relationships to connect students and potential employers through online job databases, referrals, campus/community job fairs and experiential learning opportunities (internships/practicums).
  • Designs and implements services to promote career exploration, planning, experiential learning, and employability skills based on career development theory and models.
  • Provide career education, coaching, and advising utilizing current career, occupational, and employment information and community resources including labor market information and computer-based systems to assist with career planning.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled unit and college meetings; participates in ongoing professional development.
  • Remains of current market and industry hiring trends.
  • Assists with disseminating marketing products advertising departmental services and activities in coordination with the respective supervisor(s) and the Marketing and Communications Department.
  • Assists faculty, staff, student groups, and community partners with outreach and programmatic support related to the career department. Conducts departmental services off campus and in-district as needed to support college programs and activities, including classroom visits and special events.
  • Provides assistance to students on job search tools and strategies, including resume writing, developing cover letters, and related correspondence. Provide mock interviews, networking strategies and employer connections to currently enrolled students.
  • Assists in data gathering and presentation as it relates to career services strategic objectives. Utilize data for retention and tracking for student subgroups and special populations.


Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in business, counseling, human relations, education, or related field.


  • Must be able to work some evenings, and weekends when required.
  • Ability to work in an environment requiring multiple expectations and with a diverse student population.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral presentation skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Strong computer literacy skills required.
  • Advanced organizational skills.

Master’s degree preferred from a regionally accredited institution and/or graduate courses in career counseling.


Experience in higher education or education, including student affairs counseling and/or career services preferred as well as knowledge of education and employment trends.
