Summary:


The Career Coach utilizes intentional developmental advising methods focused on student success, skill development and life-long learning while providing career advising to students, and students with learning differences. Advisement will focus in the areas of career and major exploration, job search strategies, job search correspondence critiques, job market trends, professional networking, and graduate/professional school. The Career Coach conducts career-related presentations, coordinates career-related events and programming, researches and stays up-to-date on current career services and employment trends, and collaborates with staff in formulating plans and strategies. This position requires a flexible work schedule, including days, evenings, and occasional weekends. The Career Coach will demonstrate core value of Service Excellence; respect, competence, responsiveness, and collaboration, in all interactions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities


The Career Coach is responsible for administering career, personality, and other assessments to assist students with career and life planning and for assisting students and alumni with career preparation. Specific duties include:


  • Provides professional development assistance to students through career exploration, job search guidance, resume and portfolio review, mock interviews, and soft-skill development
  • Provides counseling services to students through individualized appointments, group-counseling sessions, presentations, workshops, and through Walk-In service
  • Participates in professional organizations for continued professional development and networking experiences.
  • Attends on-campus events and programmatic initiatives on behalf of the HCCC, which will occasionally involve evening and weekend work hours
  • Assess student interests, skills, knowledge, aptitude, and reviews career exploration inventory results to determine and discuss potential academic major and career opportunities
  • Support Career Connection programs including Career Fairs and any other career produced event.


Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Must have strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Must work effectively with a people of various backgrounds and aptitudes.
  • Attends off-site professional development meetings/seminars to maintain skills and networking.
  • Must have strong computer skills.
  • Strong technology skills, excellent communication, writing, planning, problem solving, and organization skills a must.
  • Must have strong communication/public speaking/presentation skills, persuasiveness, high energy level, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be student-oriented and have a commitment to working in a team-based, collaborative environment.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Strong LinkedIn profile.
  • Bachelor degree is required.
  • Experience in assessing vocational options for and working with students with learning disabilities/physical disabilities.
  • A minimum of 2 – 5 years of experience in career services including career-related assessments and counseling and knowledge of career development theory, application, and current trends required in a higher education setting.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Possesses industry recognized career certifications (i.e. CPRW, ACRW, CPCC, CEIP, and others).
