The Continuous Improvement Manager (CIM) role is responsible for championing, developing, and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement (CI) and knowledge about related methodologies/ activities (Lean, Six Sigma) across all areas of the organization ranging from Corporate Functions to the Global Business Group. The end purpose is to improve the key performance indicators (Safety, Quality, Product Delivery, Cost, and Inventory) throughout the organization. The CIM is actively involved in setting up and establishing a support structure to develop CI capabilities and mindset through the CI University thus acting as an agent for culture change. This role personifies the Lean Six Sigma (L6S) capabilities and way of solving problems, making decisions, and setting standards.
This role will also define, prepare, lead, and execute projects, in line with business needs and project management methods and techniques, in order to deliver projects according to objectives. In addition, the CIM will train, coach, and support the CI Team, Project Team Members and CI Practitioners. They will also be responsible for training and developing Site Leaders on the CI Culture and the execution of Lean Tools such as Gemba Walks and Root Cause Analysis.
Responsibilities
- Leads cross functional teams in continuous improvement projects ensuring they are delivered within time, budget and defined projects standards and objectives. Also supports and coaches CI Team Members on their projects and initiatives.
- Leads and manages improvements throughout the Supply Chain organization, applying best practices to optimize activities such as WPO (Workplace Organization), SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die), TPM (Total Preventative Maintenance), Visual Factory/Visual Warehouse, etc. whilst utilizing appropriate change management methodologies. Supports delivery of the Supply Chain of the Future strategy.
- Performs standard managerial duties such as delivery of the overall annual CI Plan, subordinate coaching, identification of departmental efficiencies, and preparation of departmental reports and budgets. Selects, trains, develops, motivates, coaches and rewards staff to ensure achievement of operational goals. Also participates in overall Supply Chain Operations change, strategy and planning activities.
- Manages the resolution of quality related process issues providing innovative solutions and investigates alternative processes. Drives continuous improvement initiatives utilizing scientific methodologies such as Cause & Effect, DOE (Design of Experiments), FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis, PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act), RCA (Root Cause Analysis), etc.
- Manages Continuous Improvement Training including design, development, and delivery of technical training programs which support the CI Culture development. This includes the management of the eLearning section of the training. Analyzes and trends opportunities for improving skills and knowledge.
Experience: 7+ years in Operations, Process Engineering, Continuous Improvement, etc. 5+ years of experience in CI methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, etc. 5+ years of experience leading teams with experience in how to use the skills and knowledge of the team to design and implement solutions.
Education: Bachelor/University Degree in Engineering or Business field required
Required Licenses/Certifications : Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
- Able to multi-task in high-pressure environments
- Must possess the ability to interact effectively with all levels, and all positions, within organization.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles/processes, procedures and machinery, material handling and conveyance, packaging and logistics.
- Demonstrated ability to apply systems perceptive to all activities, in order to optimize the entire product flow (i.e. drive out silo thinking).
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of manufacturing regulations in order to conduct routine housekeeping and GMP walk-thru, monitor SOP compliance, monitor safety compliance and implement corrective actions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and conflict resolution skills on all organizational levels; ability to gain respect and trust through situational leadership and integrity and inspire others to follow and participate in the change process
- Must possess passion for excellence in people, processes, and analytics. This is a hands-on position that will require a self-motivated, high energy level individual.
- Extensive experience in coaching and engaging others; able to impart knowledge to others
- Good team player, knows how to build his/her own network
- Experience with practical implementation of change programs a plus
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills, able to identify and structure issues, run accurate (also statistical) analyses, and synthesize recommendations
- Solid project and stakeholder management experience
- Strong computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint); able to prepare various formats of documentation associated with CI programs
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills in order to interact effectively with assigned personnel and both internal and external contacts.
