Job Description

That’s why we’re looking for a Conflicts Attorney to join our Client Intake & Conflicts Department. This hybrid, non-practicing attorney position plays a critical role in facilitating the resolution process for conflicts of interest related to firm business. Working as part of a national team and in conjunction with firm partners and counsel, the Conflicts Attorney will conduct legal research, provide comprehensive analyses and recommendations for resolution of potential conflicts of interest and ensure potential conflicts are addressed and resolved.


The ideal candidate will be responsible for...

  • Facilitating the conflicts resolution process for new business, providing legal analysis of potential conflicts of interest to the Ethics Committee Chairperson and firm attorneys
  • Researching and analyzing conflict waivers and engagement letters for consent to waive specific representations, in accordance with Rules of Professional Responsibility
  • Making recommendations to firm management regarding potential business conflicts identified through external research and analysis of potential conflicts
  • Conducting in-depth research of conflict entities to identify and/or rule out potential conflicts
  • Conducting ongoing review and maintenance of conflicts data to ensure subsidiaries and affiliates named in Outside Counsel Guidelines are current
  • Serving as escalation point for Conflicts Analysts and troubleshooting conflicts issues through to resolution

The successful candidate will demonstrate...

  • Strong focus on client service and responsiveness
  • Strong communications skills; ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal government organizational structures and advise Ethics Committee on issues as they relate to firm clients and/or attorneys regarding government entities
  • A minimum of three years of legal practice experience
  • Understanding of conflicts of interest, including the Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Juris Doctor degree and active bar status in the State of California
  • Self-starter who can manage priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate with other team members across the firm

The Conflicts team provides service to the entire firm, which requires the team to provide after-hours emergency support to the business as needed.

Pay Range for Candidates in Los Angeles:

$114,000- $155,000 per year

Pay Range for Candidates in San Francisco:

$119,000- $160,000 per year

The ranges provided are the minimum and maximum salaries that Venable in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position. Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location.
