This recruitment will establish an Eligible List that may be used to fill current and future vacancies.
The Department of Health and Human Services, Street Outreach Network (SON) is recruiting for Community Services Aide III (CSA III) positions.
Incumbents will be responsible for working directly in a targeted community with gang-involved youth and their families to providing positive youth development and culturally based trauma informed services primarily to adolescent and young adults.
The incumbents will work as part of a team approach to address gang and youth violence in the County and will be responsible for working with other Street Outreach Network (SON) Safe Space workers to identify gang-involved youth and/or youth at-risk for gang involvement; coordination with community organizations and agencies/departments of local, state government to secure needed support services; coordination with community leaders and residents to educate and inform, and develop and implement collaborative strategies related to gang prevention and intervention needs for gang involved youth.
Bilingual applicants in the Spanish/English languages are encouraged to apply. If the candidate selected for this position possesses multilingual skills, he/she will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication, reading comprehension, and interpreting skills. For Advanced proficiency, the candidate must also pass an examination requiring translating text from Spanish to English and vice versa.
Positions filled under this recruitment require successful completion of a medical exam with drug/alcohol screen and criminal background clearance.
Employees will need to operate a motor vehicle to transport supplies and equipment to other locations to perform duties, and would require the ability to lift and carry, and manage stairs with equipment and supplies.
Interview preference will be given to applicants with experience working with gang involved youth, young adults, and families similar to that identified by law enforcement.

Minimum QualificationsExperience: Three (3) years of experience providing delivery of social, health and/or public assistance services.
Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid State of Maryland driver's license.
Preferred Criteria
The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish to English and vise versa
- Experience in Crisis and/or Gang Intervention
- Experience working with gang involved youth and families.
- Experience and working knowledge of youth and gang culture in Montgomery County or similar jurisdictions.
