About the Community Sponsorship Hub

The Community Sponsorship Hub (CSH) is a dynamic organization dedicated to growing the role of communities in the protection, resettlement, and integration of refugees and other forcibly displaced people. Mobilizing civil society, and the public, private, and philanthropic sectors, and empowering them with resources and access, we shape and coordinate a community sponsorship system that leverages the power of welcoming Americans.

CSH operates in the U.S. (New York, Washington, D.C., and remote) as a project that is fiscally sponsored by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. CSH is committed to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. CSH is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, country of origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience in the communities we serve or whose identities are underrepresented in the immigration and protection profession.

Position Overview

The Community Engagement Officer plays a key role in the development, distribution and presentation of materials related to the Welcome Corps, a new service opportunity allowing American communities to take a direct role in the welcome and integration of newly arriving refugees. This position supports the successful planning and implementation of local and national outreach strategies to connect with diaspora communities and state and local organizations, including State Refugee Coordinators and local resettlement agencies. The Community Engagement Officer collaborates with CSH staff to identify needs and resources needed to build effective relationships and ensure the distribution of timely, clear communications for the populations we serve.

This position is part of CSH's Advancement Team, working with colleagues in communications, external affairs, and fundraising to raise awareness of CSH's mission, programming, and impact. Based remotely, the Community Engagement Officer reports to the Director of External Affairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Refine and implement an effective local community engagement strategy for the benefit of CSH stakeholders. Stakeholders include local resettlement agencies, diaspora leaders, government officials, prospective sponsors, faith-based organizations and civil society stakeholders.
  • Develop resources tailored to specific stakeholders or offering general support for our stakeholder engagement initiatives (e.g., SRCs/SRHCs, RAs).
  • Create content for social media accounts and regular email campaigns, including monthly newsletters
  • Increase community engagement through outreach. Meet with community members, deliver presentations, and create tools, fact sheets, presentations, and templates.
  • Provide support to other departments as assigned.
  • Plan and implement events and meetings that foster deeper connections with diaspora communities. Support the Advancement Team and other staff in event planning.
  • Collaborate to amplify messaging about CSH and the Welcome Corps and how community members can welcome refugee newcomers.
  • Contribute to organizational outreach strategy and work with members of the Welcome Corps consortium to plan and coordinate events, identify speakers, develop scripts and promotional materials, and provide logistical management or assistance.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter who can take initiative and direction while working independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience using a high-touch approach in developing and distributing resources and other materials for communities.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and project management platforms.
  • The ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism, confidentiality and customer service. Responsive to community questions and concerns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of community services in relation to refugee resettlement and immigrant communities.
  • An effective storyteller with proven ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • 3-5 years' experience within nonprofit or grassroots organizations or dedicated outreach activities.
  • Familiarity with digital communications, including websites, social media, signage, direct mail campaigns and graphic design.
  • Fluency in languages other than English.

Commitment to Racial Equity and Social Justice

  • Will work to elevate and amplify the voices of refugees and displaced persons we serve.
  • Recognize the intersection of race and economics in shaping education and employment opportunities
  • Unwavering commitment to advancing racial equity and ensuring this is reflected throughout the organization's programs
