Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Recreation Program Manager will oversee the daily operations and management of recreation at the Community Center, ensuring that it is meeting the needs of the community and providing a safe and welcoming environment. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services offered at the center, as well as managing staff and volunteers.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or logical assignment to the position.
  • Promote and publicize recreation programs and activities; prepare and coordinate the development of program and event publicity, including flyers, brochures, news releases, etc.
  • Represent the community center at community events and meetings, promoting the center's programs and services.
  • Develop and implement programs and services that meet the needs of the community, including but not limited to: youth sports teams; youth and adult recreation sports leagues; and athletic tournaments.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of center programs and services, using data to make informed decisions and improvements.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness and participation in center programs and services.
  • Review manuals, reports, flyers, press releases, etc., produced by direct reports.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the center and its visitors, including implementing and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Supervise, promote, implement, and evaluate various recreational programs for children and adults.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on center activities, including program attendance and staff performance.
  • Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • Manage staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, and scheduling.
  • Maintain close contact with other Tribal programs and community regarding program offerings and coordination of services.
EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:
Required:
  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with a degree in recreation, physical education, social sciences, or related field(s). Will substitute an Associate’s Degree with proven four years’ equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribe’s automobile insurance.
  • CPR and First Aid certificates. Or be able to attain within three (3) months of employment.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in recreation, health and wellness, or cultural arts program experience.
SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:
Skilled in:
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage resources and schedules effectively.
  • Ability to develop, implement and manage programs and events that meet the needs of the community.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and manage staff and volunteers.

Knowledge of:
  • Familiarity with best practices in community engagement, outreach and communication.
  • Knowledge of community needs assessment, program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and sensitivity to effectively engage with diverse communities and populations.

Ability to:
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing program requirements and community needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with community members.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to address complex community issues.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate program outcomes and impact, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Capacity to identify and prioritize issues and concerns related to community development.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continuously uses vision. Frequently talks and listens. Manual dexterity for computer work and routine paperwork. Bending, stretching, standing, walking, and sitting. Occasionally lifts up to 25 lbs.
