Job Description


This is a non-merit posting for the Second Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. Applicants should follow the instructions in "To Apply" to be considered.


Shift


Varied schedule to accommodate assigned duties. The majority of hours will be scheduled during weekend and evening hours. The successful candidate may choose one of the following core schedules with the understanding that variation in the schedule will occur frequently:


  • Sunday 4pm-8pm,Monday-Tuesday Noon-9:30pm, Wednesday-Thursday 8-5:30pm With Friday and Saturday off.
  • Tuesday-Wednesday Noon-9:30pm, Thursday-Friday 8-5:30, Saturday 8am-noon, with Sunday and Monday off.
  • Sunday-Wednesday 11am-9:30pm with Thursday, Friday, Saturday off.


The schedule selected by the successful candidate will require flexibility to cover all duties at 40 hours per week. Work Duties include travel and group facilitation.


Location: Marshalltown Probation Parole Office


General Duties


Supports inclusion and diversity in all dealings with clients, employees and community members. Under general supervision, performs entry-level professional tasks such as assessment, co-facilitation of informational and educational group and individual treatment interventions, coordination of client referrals for evaluation and/or treatment and monitoring client progress and follow-through. Performs related work as required.


Distinguishing Features Of The Class


The Community Program Monitor is responsible for routine facilitation of educational and informational groups in a community based corrections district, and coordinating client referrals to a specific treatment group or community agency for evaluation and/or treatment services. The position also tracks and reports client progress and serves as the primary community link among the justice system and related community agencies. Treatment activities and strategies may be planned in conjunction with the supervisor or designee, but the incumbent evaluates and makes decisions within established policies and standards. The work requires the use of independent judgement, initiative, teamwork, communication balanced approach of treatment and supervision, developing quality professional working relationships with clients, and familiarity with district standards, policies and functions.


Minimum Qualification Requirements


Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university and two years in human services, criminal justice, or corrections experience;


or


An equivalent combination of education and experience to equal four years.


Additional Qualification Requirements


Barring reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act, designated positions in this job class require applicants to possess, obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, and the ability to be insured and maintain insurability under the district’s auto insurance coverage.


Satisfactory completion of a background investigation and criminal history check.


Successful completion of psychological testing and examination as required.


Medical examination to certify ability to physically perform the essential functions of the position at the discretion of the Director or designee.


Successful completion of a urinalysis test for illegal substances at the discretion of the Director or designee.


Designated positions in this job class may require applicants to possess specialized training or additional certifications as outlined, where applicable, in the position description.
