Job Description

Position Purpose

The Communications and Training Coordinator monitors, coordinates, and ensures all communications and necessary training to ensure the Airside Operations staff and other users of the airports movement area are meeting FAA training requirements. Performs general airport operations work to ensure the smooth operations.

Essential Functions

1 Develops, maintains, and implements airfield movement area training manuals and programs for movement area users; implements and facilitates manuals and training programs for all positions in Airside Operations per the FAA requirements.

2 Conducts and performs initial training for airport inspections, general duties of airside operations, emergency response, snow and ice controls, NOTAMs, ARFF requirements, and general security; conducts classroom and field training including practical evaluations for Airside Operations staff.

3 Provides and conducts training for movement area drivers, police, ARFF, Maintenance, Airport Tenants, and other users of the airfield; maintains records of all movement area users for training purposes and FAA compliance

4 Coordinates and works with Airport Operations Officers to perform general operational tasks; monitors maintenance, care, emergencies, and other standard tasks for effective airport operations.

5 Responds to all accidents, incidents, alerts, and emergencies on the airfield; performs all ALERT tasks regarding emergency event and participates in the FEMA/IMS Incident Command System requirements.

6 Ensures airports compliance with standards, regulations, and certificates; performs daily inspections, documents findings, and communicates compliance concerns with a firm knowledge of all FAA, TSA, National Fire Protection Association, and other regulating boards; enforces airport rules and issues notices of violation.

7 Responds to wildlife issues, security events, and trash processing from arriving flights.

8 Conducts and maintains records of quarterly fuel inspections of airport tenants; develops and maintains standard operating procedures and forms for Airside Operations staff.

9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years of experience in airport operations involving any of the following:

  • Assisting management in developing and/or facilitating professional development training for staff.
  • Leading Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) self-inspection program duties to include creating records and reports of daily activities, incidents or accidents
  • Developing, monitoring and/or managing training programs to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Part 139 training and records retention requirements.
  • Monitoring and/or updating training programs to ensure it remains current with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Advisory Circulars

EQUIVALENCIES:

  • High school diploma or GED plus eight (8) years of required experience will meet the education and experience requirements
  • Associate's degree in any field plus six (6) years of required experience will meet the education and experience requirements
  • Master's degree (or higher) in any field plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Are you able to pass the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check (no felonies within the last 10 years)?

LICENSES and/or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.

PREFERENCES:

  • MS Office or similar software skills
  • Knowledge of Airport Certification Manual (ACM) components to include required appendices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various individuals and departments; establish and maintain effective working relationship with all levels of management, city officials, vendors and other government agencies.
  • Knowledge of training and records retention as required by FAR Part 139
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety rules while working in Air Operations Areas and procedures for communicating with FAA Air Traffic Control Tower

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.


For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.


Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
