Position Summary Information

General Information
The University Business Office (UBO) at James Madison University is accepting applications for a Collections Supervisor. The UBO is responsible for processing all charges and payments on student accounts. The office works closely with students and families to coordinate billings, payment plans and collection efforts for the university. The Collections Supervisor will be responsible for monitoring and collecting account receivables, counseling students and families in need of financial options to resolve account balances, and supervising the collections team.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Collection Supervisor’s duties will include:
  • Answer incoming phone calls and provide in-person customer service.
  • Monitoring departmental collection activity.
  • Managing university administered loans.
  • Placing accounts with external collections agencies or the Attorney General’s Office when accounts are non-compliant.
  • Supervising the internal collections team within the University Business Office.
  • Monitoring past due accounts of currently enrolled and former students.
  • Ensuring compliance for all collections activities and payment agreements.
  • Providing notification of pending and on-going collections activity.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Knowledge of business operations, internal control practices and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Sound understanding of loan programs
  • A history of analyzing diverse financial data
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations as it relates to collections activity
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
Preferred:
  • Experience using PeopleSoft or similar databases
  • Prior collections experience
  • Prior experience in higher education

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
