Job Description
  • Full Time - 40 Hours Per Week. Benefits eligible.
  • Requires the ability to work a schedule with flexible working hours, including night and weekend hours as deemed necessary by management.


Role


Under the direction of the Collections Supervisor assumes responsibility for loan, credit card and account collection activities to recover credit union assets. This is to be accomplished according to the credit union's policies and regulatory guidelines, while providing quality member service.


Essential Functions


  • E 60% - Contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail; takes appropriate action(s) to bring accounts current including but not limited to, contacting auto dealerships and third party vendors to collect monies owed for rebatable item refunds.
  • E 5% - Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans.
  • E 5% - Testifies at legal proceedings as required.
  • E 10% - Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers; makes recommendations to repossess collateral when other arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful.
  • E 5% - Performs scanning, document retention and loan file imaging duties.
  • E 10% - Maintains accurate files and reports on all collections activity.
  • N 5% - Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Performance Measurements


  • Assist with maintaining charge-off loan files & collections of charged off loans. Work in conjunction with outside collection agencies as needed.
  • Assist with preparing and sending delinquent letters and collection notices for all delinquent accounts.
  • Assist management with monitoring and reporting all payments made on delinquent loans and updating collection comment screens.
  • Maximize the collection and/or recovery of credit union assets from delinquent and charged-off accounts including the rebatable items owed to credit union from indirect dealer network, third party vendors, etc.
  • Assist with legal proceedings when needed.
  • Assist with monitoring share draft accounts for NSF activity and reviewing negative balance reports, following up to collect funds due the credit union.
  • Maintain a current understanding of lending regulations and comply with policies and regulations including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act, Truth in Lending, Fair Lending, RESPA, HMDA, FCRA and the SAFE Act.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to acquire and maintain standards established by the credit union. This could include attending conferences, seminars and workshops as directed by management.
  • Assist with identifying and monitoring accounts with due dates greater than 15 days delinquent on a daily basis.
  • Work in conjunction with Indirect Lending Coordinator and Centralized Lending department to facilitate collection efforts of rebatable item refunds owed to members and credit union.
  • Responsible for calling all consumer loan, credit card & commercial delinquencies while counseling members on how to correct the delinquent situation.
  • Assist with processing and maintaining records of membership death claims with CUNA Mutual Insurance.
  • Works within all regulatory requirements and collection guidelines and adheres to provisions as set forth in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and insure collection activity is always within Credit Union policy and all relevant regulations.
  • Assists with collection of losses related to fraudulent activities. Tracks communications with members and appropriate authorities to ensure prompt repayment of funds.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining various reports including, but not limited to, charge-off report, bankruptcy listings and repossession spreadsheet.
  • Assist with other lending services as necessary.
  • Provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and employees.
  • Assist with identifying and seek measures to correct loans with forced placed insurance.
  • Serves as a back up to the Collections Supervisor when necessary. (i.e. vacations, illnesses etc.)
  • Responsible for reporting and tracking of rebatable item collections efforts including making recommendations of uncollected items for charge off.
  • Becomes familiar with and abides by policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by the credit union, e.g. Security; Bank Secrecy Act; Identity Theft and Red Flags; Cash Over/Short Guidelines; Check Cashing and Holds; Confidentiality; etc.
  • Assist with issuing, tracking/monitoring and reporting of loan subsequent action forms.


Knowledge And Skills


  • Interpersonal Skills - Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
  • Experience - One year to three years of similar or related experience.
  • Requires the ability to work a schedule with flexible working hours, including night and weekend hours as deemed necessary by management.
  • Education - A high school education or GED.
  • Requires well-developed interpersonal skills for communicating with members.
  • Requires intermediate mathematical skills (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.)


Physical Requirements


  • Requires the ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, including making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive finger movements to perform typing or otherwise working with paper files and documents.
  • Requires close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; view a computer terminal; read and assess work quality.
  • Involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required occasionally.
  • Requires the expression or exchanging of ideas by means of the spoken word to communicate with members.


Work Environment


  • Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
