Residential & Community Living promotes a self-regulated environment for the residents of University residence halls and apartments. Their services foster the residents’ ability to live together respectfully and responsibly in a learning community and promote the academic success of all residents. The residential education program provides a quality living experience as well as opportunities to interact with other residents, faculty and staff. Conduct & Student Leadership is responsible for the administration of the residential student conduct processes and advising the live-in professional staff on all disciplinary issues that occur within University Housing. Student Leadership oversees the Community Councils, the student governments for the different communities. They plan social, educational, cultural, and recreational programming for residents, as well as advocate for residents.

Brief Summary of Job Duties
Under the shared supervision of the Licensed Clinical Social Worker Chief Associate, and the Associate Director of Residential & Community Living, the Housing Social Worker, provides a full range of social work services within University owned and operated Housing facilities, with emphasis on identifying treatment resources and providing psychosocial interventions (individual, group, crisis) not offered by other campus resources, to assure that residents receive optimal benefit from medical and/or psychiatric care. Additionally, the Housing Social Worker oversees the accommodations process for residents requesting special housing accommodations, and provides training for live-in staff. The primary client population to be served is residents living in student housing with significant psychosocial stress, acute and chronic mental illnesses and in need of short and long term social services, including long term counseling and case management support.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of post-master's experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Possession of a clinical social worker license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners, within 1 Year required
- Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in psychiatric crisis work.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties
30% Case Management - Provides complete case management and resource planning. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, using both University and community programs and resources, plans and coordinates and individualized program to address the resident's medical, psychiatric, social, financial, academic, and housing needs. Interviews individual and other appropriate parties to determine: The resident's historical and current level of functioning; medical and psychological needs; financial resources; academic history, progress and goals; capacity to live independently within a student community; and support system. Within this evaluation process, creates and maintains appropriate professional case files, develops comprehensive service plans and continues to observe and evaluate the resident. Counsels resident on available resources, barriers to continued academic progress, independent community living skills and other areas involving defined problems or concerns; explains procedures, rights and responsibilities. Advises live-in staff on appropriate guidelines for client/residents return to buildings, and behavior management while living in university owned and operated buildings. Works with impacted parties, including parents, roommates, and others after incidents, as appropriate. Assists residents in identifying and obtaining basic services needed for independent living; identifies and makes referrals to a variety of university, public and community agencies providing academic advice and services, legal advice, medical, housing, transportation and other services; schedules resident appointments; acts as a resident advocate in obtaining services. Provides ongoing assessment of resident's adjustment to the university housing environment and campus environment throughout the academic year. Manages assigned caseload; prepares narrative and statistical reports, documents and correspondence regarding resident status; documents case files; prepares and serves legal documents; testifies in court when required. Interprets psychosocial implications of illness to medical providers, housing staff, academic service providers and other campus support services as appropriate.
20% Housing Program Development - Serves as the lead to address requests for special housing accommodations, working with staff from Disability Services Program and Residential & Community Services. Follows up with residents on requests. Provides training for live-in staff on appropriate protocol and procedures for addressing mental health issues. Provides support for Family Student Housing residents as it relates to children and family issues.
10% Administrative Duties - Documents clinical services in Student Health electronic record & updates housing conduct record as appropriate. Regularly meets with supervisors. Attends collegial staff meetings. Attends Student Health, Housing and campus trainings as appropriate Participates on various departmental and interdepartmental committees as appropriate Attends campus and community meetings as appropriate
