Cardiology Unit

This is a Cardiac Telemetry unit that cares for cardiac, pulmonary and renal patients; ranging from cardiac drips, various forms of oxygen delivery methods including stable tracheostomy patients (no ventilator patients) and hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis patients. Earlier this year we moved into our new, larger department, increasing our capacity. The population on the unit is highly varied from self-care patients requiring a work-up on an inpatient unit to total care patients. A majority of our patients have at least 2 co-morbidities. The average length of stay is 4 days, some are admitted for less than 24 hours and some will stay with us for 2+ weeks. You will experience, learn and grow in your clinical skills on this unit!

Position Summary

Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit; coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Assesses learning needs of patient and family.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Evaluates plan of care.
• Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to the age-specific needs of the population served.
• Correlates patient history and support systems within hospital care/nursing home care.
• Resolves problems regarding moderately complex issues without oversight or supervision.
• Supervises LPNs, Nursing Assistants, HUCs, Techs, and sitters.
• Recommends interventions.
• Demonstrates willingness to precept employees/students as directed. Reviews clinical performance of preceptee with unit leader or clinical instructor.
• Develops and initiates plan of care, involving patient and family.

Minimum Education None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience Must possess at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience.

Licensure Requirement Must have and maintain Tennessee State RN licensure. CPR required.
