Job Description
Make an impact at Goodwin, where we partner with our clients to practice law with integrity, ingenuity, agility and ambition. We are in the business of building authentic, long-term relationships with our clients, who are some of the world’s most successful and innovative investors, entrepreneurs and disruptors in the life sciences, private equity, real estate, technology and financial industries, and where they converge. Our immersive understanding of these industries – combined with our expertise across high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution, world-class regulatory compliance and advisory services, and complex transactions – sets us apart. Our Global Operations Team – all business professionals of the firm – was named the “Best Business Team” by The American Lawyer.
We are seeking a current or aspiring Supreme Court afficionado who would be responsible for assisting Goodwin’s Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation practice with its marketing and client development initiatives. Would you enjoy learning about the work of the Supreme Court, crafting presentations and events about the Supreme Court, maintaining data and other information about cases before the Supreme Court, and finding (and preparing for) opportunities to work on Supreme Court and appellate cases for both pro bono and business clients? If so, this role provides an excellent opportunity for you to engage in these activities while working closely with Goodwin’s Supreme Court and Appellate lawyers and the firm’s client development team. The candidate who fills this role would also provide client development support as needed to the firm’s broader Litigation Department.
What You'll Do:
  • Assist with tracking and summarizing Supreme Court and appellate matters.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed to support Client Development and work of Goodwin’s litigation teams overall.
  • Working with the Client Development team, perform basic competitive intelligence and marketing research in preparation for client and prospect meetings, pitches/proposals, and other business development initiatives.
  • Develop a strong understanding of essential firm technologies, software, and websites including Microsoft Dynamics, Foundation, PACER, and Westlaw.
  • Develop and maintain presentation and webinar materials, including Supreme Court previews, Supreme Court reviews, and presentations regarding Supreme Court and appellate matters.
  • Support the process of developing pitches, proposals, marketing materials, and RFP responses, primarily for Supreme Court and appellate matters.
  • Provide support for key business development initiatives as determined by the Client Development team in partnership with the firm’s Supreme Court and Appellate practice.
  • Maintain practice marketing materials, including practice group descriptions, brochures, slide decks, client alerts, and practice-specific lists.
  • Perform background research about clients, potential clients, and cases, including monitoring an array of current news sources and blog posts as well as online databases.
  • Monitor industry news/developments, and assist in identifying thought leadership opportunities.
  • Provide support for both in-person and virtual events and presentations.
  • Develop familiarity with the work of the Supreme Court by analyzing Supreme Court arguments, opinions, and pending cases to clients and potential clients.
Who You Are:
  • Some experience (co-op, internships, entry-level experience) in communications or marketing and in a professional services environment is a plus.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to think objectively and creatively, and to work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong interest in learning about the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Undergraduate experience with law-related courses and/or extracurriculars is preferred, as well as an interest in attending law school.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while prioritizing assignments.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • BA, BS, or equivalent.
  • Strong computer and research skills, including web-based research.
