Job Description
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Rehabilitation Therapies is seeking a Clerk III to who under general supervision, performs and coordinates clerical work such as examining and evaluating data according to established guidelines requiring knowledge of both assigned and related work areas. Duties will involve the use of personal computers, computer terminals, and a variety of software and/or conventional office equipment.


  • Represent the interests of the University and of unit leadership in the use of resources to meet service and productivity demands within unit goals and budgets; strives to promote continual process and quality improvement
  • Assist with answering and disposition of department telephone calls
  • Demonstrate respect for all members of the University community in the course of performing one’s duties and in response to administrators, supervisors, coworkers, and customers; constructively brings forward workplace concerns to coworkers and/or supervisor
  • Perform patient registration and scheduling of appointments both in person and via phone utilizing Epic
  • Perform a variety of functions such as ordering supplies, doing mailings, filing, etc. in a timely and accurate manner

  • Complete reports, word processing and other written work within assigned deadlines

  • Perform reception duties of patients, visitors and the public

Minimum Eligibility Requirements


  • Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment


Desirable Qualifications


  • Knowledge of institutional and unit policies, processes and forms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Insurance knowledge and ability to process insurance authorizations
  • Knowledge and experience of the EPIC software system
  • Previously worked in a Rehabilitation setting
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high transaction volume environment


Highly Desirable


  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of office routines and functions sufficient to refer visitors and telephone calls and to route correspondence by name and functional area
  • Skill in utilizing computer software packages and online systems
  • Knowledge of proper format, grammar, spelling punctuation and capitalization
  • Ability to manage high volume public contact
