About the Opportunity
The Claims & Risk Specialist is responsible for handling the day-to-day administration of various insurance claims and risk programs related to Northeastern University. This role requires specialized knowledge of claim processing within a broad portfolio of insurance policies. This position will partner with internal and external resources to gather information relevant to review and process claims, work with insurance carriers and third-party administrators (TPAs) to manage claims through closure, provide analytics, reports and statistics on the performance and trends of claims, and partner with colleagues in Risk Services to best support Northeastern University’s changing risk profile. The Claims & Risk Specialist is expected to exercise confidentiality and independent judgement with operational and financial matters.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with university constituents to gather information on claims, both at the start of a claim and throughout as needed.
  • Participate in trainings for university constituents to help them better understand the importance of claim reporting and procedures.
  • Work with Insurance Program Manager and Brokers to understand the university’s insurance programs and coverage.
  • Other tasks and projects as required by the department.
  • Act as the main point of contact for claimants as needed.
  • Handle day-to-day administration of insurance claims for various lines of coverage including, but not limited to, Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, General Liability, Management Liability, Cyber, Environmental, Property, and Business Travel Accident.
  • Partner with internal and external counsel, insurance carriers, and TPAs to resolve claims through closure.
  • Maintain detailed claim status reports to provide to Director of Risk Services, members of the Office of the General Counsel, and senior leadership as needed.
  • Produce reports, statistics, and analytics of claim trends, financial impacts, and performance.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Prior insurance brokerage claim experience desirable.
  • Experience with creating high-level reports, statistics, and analytics through Microsoft Excel and system-based programs.
  • Must be organized and have a keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Must be able to appropriately manage confidential materials.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. This position will not be sponsored for a work visa.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Insurance designations/ insurance adjuster licenses preferred.
  • College degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a claims handling or claims related position is required.
