The Superintendent, working closely with the Project Management Team, shall oversee all aspects of the planning, implementation, and completion of projects. Duties include examining plans and monitoring the work of the subcontractors to ensure the work is performed in a safe, timely, profitable, and ethical manner, in accordance with contract documents, design, budget, and schedule. The Superintendent will monitor work progress and coordinate with the foreman or general superintendents to deliver progress reports. The Superintendent makes sure that all specifications are maintained and identifies any defective or inadequate materials or labor.
It is the Superintendent’s responsibility to stay in constant contact with the other field personnel, contractor representatives and the Project Manager(s) to proactively identify issues before they occur and address all issues that may arise. Superintendents must demonstrate strong supervisory experience, as they must manage a team of workers and meet goals independently of the other aspects of construction and with minimal oversight.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct quality inspections
- Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts
- Assist with providing technical assistance (interpretation of drawings, recommendation of construction methods and equipment, etc.) as required
- Direct day-to-day on-site supervision of field labor force including assistants, foremen, subcontractors, and other construction related personnel
- Review and approve Trade Contractor Payment Applications with Project Manager
- Help set a positive tone for the project. This would include instilling an “esprit de corps” among the workers, staff, sub-contractors, and all persons involved in the project.
- Work in conjunction with the Account Manager or Operations Manager on staffing for the project(s)
- Actively mentoring other Superintendents and upcoming Assistant Superintendents to promote their development
- Conduct subcontractor meetings
- Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules, and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates
- Inspection of Contractor or (Sub)Contract operations to ensure compliance with Contract
- Prepare and submit Superintendent’s Daily Reports to document weather and field conditions, trade and subcontractor manpower, progress and conditions impacting the project, as well as Accident Reports, Quality Reports, etc.
- Develop and maintain site coordination plan, in coordination with Sr. Project Manager
- Providing training and education to support field superintendents and engineers
- Monitor costs, including labor time and material
- Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and mentoring others
- Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients, including representatives of Owner and Architect/Engineer
- Assist Project Manager in the supervision and responsibility of the total construction effort in accordance with design, budget, quality, and schedule)
- Communicate and enforce the Project Health Management Program
- Attend and participate in project meetings

Education and/or Experience
- Broad knowledge of construction industry including equipment, labor, means and methods, codes, and standards
- Site Safety Manager License (SSM) and Construction Site Fire Safety Manager Certificate preferred
- 10 plus years of related construction experience in Heavy Civil or Commercial Construction
- Airport and Transit Experience a Plus
- 62-hour SST card

Work Environment/Job Conditions
This job is performed both in the office and in the field. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around equipment, systems and conditions is required.
Salary: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
