The Role

As the Chief of Staff for its GAdvertising business, you will report to our VP, GM, Global Advertising. The Head of Strategy will partner with the VP, GM, Global Advertising to help define the strategy and ensure efficient execution for this multi-billion business.

The candidate will be a creative thinker, effective communicator and capable collaborator. They will work with key stakeholders for the Advertising & Merchandising organization to design strategies and drive structured and data-based recommendations to action. Within this role, the candidate will have the ability to influence key elements of eBay’s Ads strategy and to help shape the future direction of eBay. The ideal candidate has a track record of making pragmatic, actionable recommendations with real world implementation experience.

Responsibilities

• Project Management: Identify opportunities and lead projects that will enable the organization to execute better and faster
• Managing through Uncertainty: Self-direct as well as manage junior resources on the strategy team and across the organization to deliver superior end-products in a dynamic industry and corporate environment
• Develop collateral for updates the eBay’s Leadership Team and Board of Directors
• Communication skills: Strong mid to senior-level presence and able to command an audience and engage in constructive dialog with various levels of executives and team members
• Market intelligence: Develop insightful market intelligence about key industry trends (technology, competitors, consumers, and so on), educate the organization and company regarding their strategic implications, and identify unmet opportunities
• People development: Strong people motivation and development skills with a collaborative interpersonal style
• Facilitation: Lead sessions for the leadership team including operating cadence and planning
• Strategy: Work with key leaders in the Advertising & Merchandising organization to define the long-term strategy and communicate it throughout the company
• Planning process: Lead our org-wide strategic planning process as well as the integration with eBay’s annual planning process

Job requirements

• Comfort with uncertainty
• Ability to communicate clearly and simply with mid-level and senior audiences. Strong influencing skills
• History of success with “seeing around corners” and spotting opportunities for business growth
• Comfort in reaching out and organizing cross-functional collaboration in a highly matrixed environment
• Highly collaborative
• Excellence in structured thinking with superior analytical capabilities (quantitative and qualitative)
• Ability to lead, motivate and mentor project team members

Qualifications

• Project and people management experience required
• 10+ years of work experience preferred. Top tier strategy consulting, investment banking, or corporate strategy experience strongly preferred
• Industry experience in commerce/ retail, consumer goods or internet services a plus
• BS/BA degree required. MBA or other advanced degree preferred

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York City is expected in the range below.

$144,000 - $216,150

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
