Job Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside, Inc. (SAGE) Board of Directors (Board)
Reporting to this Position: Chief Financial Officer, Chief Innovation & Technology
Officer, Chief Administration Officer, Community Engagement Manager
Position Summary: Responsible for implementing the mission and related goals identified in the strategic plans, bylaws, policies, and procedures established and approved by the Board. The CEO has overall accountability, responsibility, and authority for the day-to-day management of SAGE’s business operations and affairs in accordance with Board approved direction and oversight. The CEO directs the organization in meeting the requirements of its funders and clients, and in complying with applicable laws and regulations.Provides leadership and management oversight of SAGE staff, including both direct and indirect reports.
General Purpose: Oversees all SAGE operations, functions, and activities.Provides strategic direction. Represents the organization and acts as the primary spokesperson of the organization.
Position Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff and stakeholders.
- Maintain regular and ongoing communication to build strong relationships with the entire Board.
- Maintain existing and identify new fundraising opportunities and/or revenue sources to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability.
- Ensure the organization’s effective operations with clear communication of the mission to all and alignment of programs with the stated mission.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote the organization’s mission and voice.
- Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the organization and service areas, with a focus on systems/process improvement.
- Create thorough business plans for the attainment of goals, objectives, and strategies.
- Research, identify, and understand grants and contracts relevant to the organization.
- Build and lead an effective team with oversight of personnel processes such as hiring, ongoing professional/staff development, performance management, change management and compensation and benefits.
- Forge and maintain relationships of trust with stakeholders, community partners, and external authorities.
- Assure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.
- Proactively identify and analyze problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure the organization’s survival and growth.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
- Keep the Board informed, in a timely manner, of the progress of the organization on the achievement of, or material deviations from, strategic goals.
- Develop & implement the strategic direction of the organization as approved by the Board.
- Foster an environment that promotes positive morale, professionalism, and a results-driven performance.
- Oversee monitoring of the annual budget, as approved by Board, to ensure maximum utilization of income and resources and a solid financial standing of the organization.
- Ensure the organization has a strong community presence through effective marketing and public relations.
Required: Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience and success working with non-profits/non-private organizations and a diverse group of stakeholders such as elected officials, community leaders, financial and educational institutions, etc.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in economic development, community development, planning or a related field.
- Ability to form and maintain good internal/external interpersonal relationships.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish a plus.
- Understanding of human resources and personnel management.
- Bachelor’s Degree in management, urban planning, economic development, business or public administration, or a related field required.
- Delegation, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
Preferred:
Master’s degree preferred.
5 or more years of non-profit management experience in an operational environment.
