Shey-Harding Executive Search is working on behalf of our client, the Port of Corpus Christi to find an exceptional Maritime Professional to fill the role of Chief Executive Officer.
ABOUT THE PORT OF CORPUS CHRISTI
Situated along the South Texas Gulf Coast, The Port of Corpus Christi is the premiere gateway for U.S.-produced energy exports. The Port has seen exponential growth over the past decade, becoming the largest export gateway in the U.S. for crude oil and No. 2 in liquefied natural gas shipments. It is also the leading port in the nation in total annual revenue tonnage, as well as the third largest in total waterborne tonnage. Over the past several years, the Port of Corpus Christi has regularly set and surpassed tonnage and revenue records on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
The Port of Corpus Christi is strategically positioned for commerce, providing quick access to the Gulf of Mexico and the entire U.S. inland waterway system, delivering unmatched access to overland transportation, as well as direct vessel-to-rail discharge capabilities with access to three Class I railroads (BNSF, KCS and UP). The Port also owns a short line operated by Watco, the Texas Coastal Bend Railroad.
POSITION SUMMARY
Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a seasoned executive leader to guide the organization under the direction of a seven-member Board of Commissioners. This position acts as the Chief Executive Officer covering a broad range of functions including but not limited to: P&L oversight, business development, governmental initiatives and relations, and the development of its international and national image and relationships with business and community.
The CEO leads a team of 270+ personnel including a seasoned executive level staff. Essential functions also include: Appointing and managing executive staff, providing timely and relevant information for decision-making, delegating appropriately to staff using discretion in a sensitive and professional manner and providing performance guidance, maintaining good employee relations and succession planning, leading all strategic initiatives including oversight and continued development of the Port’s strategic plan and accountability for all current and future infrastructure development projects.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate for this position will have natural leadership skills and a demonstrated track record of unquestioned integrity and ethics. They should be an organized, thorough, energetic, highly engaged, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of PCCA.
EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND JOB KNOWLEDGE
- Proven experience as a visionary thinker with the ability to translate high level goals into achievable objectives and action plans.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the energy sector are strongly preferred.
- Proven leadership and direct, large scale management experience in the maritime industry or a large public sector enterprise, preferably a similar sized seaport.
- At least 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in the maritime transportation or logistics industry or proven executive level experience in a related field or industry.
- Excellent and proven political acumen and demonstrated involvement with local, State, and elected officials on matters relevant to the maritime industry.
- Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Experience with projects related to permitting, grants, dredging, regulatory issues and ideally public/private partnerships preferred.
