Overview
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the operations, administration, direction, and coordination of all hospital activities. He/she assures that all activities of hospital are carried out as specified in Hospital bylaws and policies established or authorized by the hospital board of trustees. The CEO delegates portions of his/her responsibilities consistent with sound operations and authorized policies and procedures. The CEO serves as the hospital’s principal representative to the medical staff, the community, and other groups external to the operation of the hospital as well as a liaison between the hospital and the UnityPoint Health-Des Moines.

Preferred Or Specialized
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline required.
Master of Health Care Administration, Master of Business Administration or health-related master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of five years’ experience in hospital administration or a health-related field. Knowledge of strategic development, planning, marketing, financing and delivery of health care services as normally acquired through a master’s degree in hospital administration, business administration or related degree.
Prefer previous experience as senior healthcare leader (e.g. CEO, CNO, CFO, or senior leader (VP) in a larger organization.
Knowledge of strategic planning, marketing, finance and delivery of health care services as normally acquired through a master’s degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration or related degree.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Achievement of American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) designation preferred.

Responsibilities
- Leadership and management of direct reports as determined by the organization’s structure.
- Defines and aligns the strategic vision for the hospital in conjunction with direction and advice from hospital trustees and UnityPoint Health.
- Ensure development and regular maintenance of personnel policies and practices.
- Submission to the Board, or its authorized committees, periodic reports showing the professional service and financial activities of Hospital and preparation and submission of special reports as may be required by the Board.
- Oversight of the preparation and submission, for approval, of an annual operating budget including a capital expenditure plan, and with periodic reporting to the Board on the financial performance of Hospital.
- Supervision of all business operations including financial and human resources.
- Implementation of the strategic goals and objectives of Hospital.
- Develop recommendations for services that will provide for the financial sustainability and meet the mission and strategic objectives of the hospital.
- Oversight for the maintenance and the physical properties in a good state of repair and operating condition; evaluation od physical properties and equipment to develop recommendations for the Board for replacement options, including cost and timeline.
- Serve as a role model in setting organizational culture to maximize potential to improve overall performance – as an individual, as a team, and as an organization
- Management of the organization’s human resources according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that conform to current laws and regulations.
- Responsible for the entirety of operations – finance, quality, human resources - and administration of the hospital including the medical staff.
